Playing an expansion as current content has been a lacklustre MMO experience

I've been in the content drought (except for the few days or weeks after a patch, depending on minor or major patch) since February of this year. All my jobs were leveled to 90. So, for a while I started on other "projects." I finally spent time finishing up the DoL titles for the Firmament and got the mount. I then spent some time duoing level 70 Ex trials for those mounts. I moved onto collecting all the TT cards (I barely played that before EW). Then I spent time doing all the Gold Saucer stuff for High Roller. Then I bounced around between doing HW and SB relics.

Generally speaking, it has been stuff I enjoyed. However, I'm getting a bit tired of farming relics now. So... I'm just doing something else. I'll pick the game back up in January when the next patch drops. Do all of that. Probably run the 24-man weekly for a while. Make the new crafting gear. And then... take another break.

Honestly, it is probably healthier to take a break from the game on occasion then it is to try and force yourself to find things to do in-between content releases.

Hmm, the WoW shill is bored of XIV. oh well. :rolleyes:

There's definitely such a thing as pushing too hard. You're allowed to take breaks and should definitely do so. There's only so much any team can put out, so you pace yourself and look out for burnout.

Unless you own a house.
Unless you don't mind falling behind farming tokens.
Unless you want to clear current content before people stop running it.
Unless you want to miss out on any events that will take place during your break.
Unless you don't mind missing out on PvP season rewards.

None of the above is a good reason to keep playing a game you don't enjoy. Auto demo is off. You won't lose your house.

But when it does, and there are plenty of people in these forums wanting it to be brought back as soon as possible, the potential loss don't justify the efforts required to get one back and running.

Content gets added in 3 times a year, the two months leading upto new content are basically a dead zone where the hardcore raiders are finished with the tier and disappear, and the casual playerbase dwindles as people unsub out of boredom and play other games.

its how the game was designed, and i personally hate it.

I want to play the game, But without the interest to keep other people playing there isnt much point.

If there was some long lasting content like Eureka added in the .2 patch, people would still be playing.

Unfortunately, there's no better content release plan than what's available right now. Anything further would cost a lot more to maintain and the moment the subscription price goes up is when people will definitely be looking elsewhere. This is the alternative to what's been in existence with other MMOs, where content comes out about once a year with some events in between. You can be sad about it or you can learn to deal with it, taking whatever breaks work or playing whatever game you like.

I don't RP at all and I'm very content right now. I've been catching up on different things at different points. I'm enjoying the current break before 6.3. I get to catch up on more casual stuff like fishing. There's always more going on this time of year that I spend less time playing anyway, so I'm definitely not bothered. I bet we're due for a moogle event after the holiday event.

I feel you, i took a bit of a break and even moved DC's just to spice things up a bit.

Finding myself doing more and more mundane tasks like fishing relic that i've never really been that interested in, just to keep myself pre-occupied.

I'd love to step back into P8S prog but i feel i've waited too long now, not much point. (And differences in raiding across datacenters, specifically jp and NA, make things a bit harder), Looking forward to next tier to try again.
