If you want a system that rewards the effort you put in instead of pure luck, it's right there. I have come to think it's better than placard clicking and free for all. Yeah your on Odin. If you look at the active servers it paints a different picture; unless your suggesting people change to foreign data centers to acquire property. To a lesser extent you have a point with Dynamis opening in NA; but again you need to provide proof when your making a claim that shell FCs are not now taking housing because my (although anecdotal) personal experience disagrees with that assessment. I also fail to see how changing servers is effort; its more or less just punishing yourself (for example being unable to join a FC on a active server, no EB etc) because you had to go to Dynamis for example. And using a alt for housing for personal use is a band-aid solution to contribute to the exact problem you claim does not exist (making shell FCs to acquire a home)

No one is talking about moving servers. Even on active NA servers it took some time to fill every small fc house. More houses are coming soon, at which point you can either have a fc or not have a fc to bid with.

You misunderstood me it seems. Shell fcs exist, but they are not a problem if there are still fc houses available. How many empty fc plots are there on Coeurl?

That placard game was rng in a different flavor. Who will happen to click at the right time? It was all luck. And then most of them would use scripts to bot at the placard and you'd see them all, after the plot had been won, just standing there continuing to click on a signpost. And that was assuming someone didn't just relocate to the plot. It was all luck and competing against cheaters. I don't miss it at all. But this new system doesn't meet people's demands either, unless you're on some dead world/dc I guess. Then you just have homes for days. This situation isn't ideal for players on even a remotely active world/datacenter, and no, moving to Materia isn't a viable solution considering the absolute state Square's abandoned it in. Players are actively fleeing that DC because it turns out most people would rather be homeless on a DC that lets them enjoy the game.

Checking this just before I post:
One small in Lavender Beds
Two smalls in Empyreum.
Shirogane, Mist and Goblet are full.

Coeurl effectively ran out of FC houses back in September. Still better than Balmung and Mateus, which ran out even sooner. Not certain about the status of other Crystal worlds but they're probably in the same shape as Coeurl.

So some NA worlds other than Balmung did actually use up all their fc houses? That's interesting. If it took 5 months for Coeurl and others, it still seems as though bigger fcs have had plenty of time to obtain a house before solo fcs got theirs. Hopefully some of the new wards in NA are fc only so that fcs created in the future will be able to obtain a house as well.

My problem with the lotto is that your bid is for a specific house. Some people, like me, don't care which housing district they get a house in. Sure, I might prefer Shirogane, but I'll be just as happy with a house in Mist. If I want a medium house I should be able to place a bid for any available medium house.

If the players placard spamming were all truly there and truly spending a ridiculous 12-24 hours spamming incessantly... then sure. However, they weren't. People (not all people) were using bots to spam placards.

It seemed to me that most of what was going on with placard spamming was someone would win and then they'd continually be clicking their own placard for another 4+ hours until the "owner" came back and turned off their bot.

Placard spamming was the dumbest system and it only encouraged botting. If you were the honest player, you could be there for an unhealthy number of hours. It wasn’t just a matter of “really” wanting a house as op posted but a matter of being able to sit and click for hours knowing that you were competing against bots. Many have busy lives with multiple familial and professional obligations that are simply incompatible with such a system and it’s not a matter of “want” but “can”.

It was also rng based: the first click after an invisible timer goes off and that timer could go off the moment you went afk due to a call of nature and then you had to restart the madness again.


And an in game house is a “status symbol”? Lol. At most, in the old wards a mansion may mean that you have been playing for a long while. Other than that, an in game house means nothing. I guess OP is one of those people who live for others. I get an in game house for myself because decorating is fun and the house brings some utility.

It sounds like you're making assumptions about how long it takes a FC to meet the requirements for house purchase based on its size.

A solo FC can get to Rank 6 within a few hours of FC creation by spamming Expert Deliveries. All it takes is a little advance preparation by collecting gear received through quick ventures, buying from the marketboard cheap and/or doing some supplemental solo dungeon farming.

Then they're ready to go just like the large FCs. The only difference between the two *might* be the number of entries they have for a plot depending on the wealth of the members.

The FCs at a real disadvantage are the genuine small to mid-size FCs formed by relatively new players that are less likely to have the resources of the other two.

Certainly SE will make some of the new wards FC but we're right back to how many will still be left 3 months later when more recently created FCs will be looking for a house. How many will have been bought up by the shell FCs running their workshop farms?

It's a mess of a system and any short term gain on the supply problem that SE creates quickly gets wiped out because those small gains are still far less than general demand.

It's a mess that SE could have avoided by not attaching gil generation to housing and having it all fully instanced from the start.
