And many of the guys online(including the one I did meet irl) were... kind of awful in the long run. I swear I'm not trying to point fingers and play the blame game here but when someone has a complete melt down and throws a tantrum which ends up in them threatening you(all over not answering them for an hour while you're in class and you've been with them for a few weeks so they know your schedule), then I'm going to say it's safe to say that it wasn't exactly my problem.

Oh no totally understandable. You've had some bad run ins. You can do everything on your end right and it just...blows up. That's kinda how it was like with the other person I dated.

She was 9 years older than me and with a kid. She had some red flags going but I ignored them cause I was feeling lonely. I did everything to help her and her kid out. After a year it didn't end well again. I was upset for like...3 days before I ended up laughing about because I KNEW this wouldn't work out but I was gonna try anyway to fill this emotional void I was going through. My mistake was ignoring my instincts.

After that I decided I was going to work on me. I got a new job and I worked on just making it so I enjoyed my own company. Once I was in a good emotional state I noticed I had some really good friends. I've not had friends since...I think Junior High. These people are like family to me and when you're mentally/financially stable...other things just seem to fall in place. This included relationships when you want them to be.

Sometimes to love is easy but to accept love is hard. Even I'm still kinda at that point where to accept it is hard but I know one day it'll happen as long as I'm open to the idea and I hope you don't close yourself off from possibilities.

There is no doubt that there are millions of people who will give you a poor experience. But there plenty of people who will not. But it depends what you are expecting and how much you can tolerate, because nobody is perfect.

If you are expecting someone to make no mistakes or have no annoying habits, then that isn't being very realistic.

Hard to trust anyone these days. Even family. Good for people who take chances and it end up working out for them but those seem like diamonds in the rough.

My best man, best friend, and godfather to my kids initially met in Un'goro crater fighting over Devilsaur Leather and finally met at Blizzcon in 2007 at the server meet and greet. I flew to Vancouver to be a part of his wedding and he flew to Fukuoka to be a part of mine.

Personally, I've had a mixed, but mostly positive experience.
I met my best friend in WoW back in 2007, and we're closer than ever.
I had 2 relationships emerge from WoW as well. One ended really badly, the second I still play D&D with to this day.

Currently I'm seeing a wonderful person I met here on the FF forum. I find that platonic friendships seem harder to maintain for me here on FF though, people kinda fade out after a while.

I met my husband in WoW 12 years ago and I know of a few other couples that formed there.

My best advice for both online and rl relationships is to stop giving chances for people who don't deserve it and get out as soon as you sense any trouble. It's not worth it. 10 year age gaps, ghosting, people who don't make promises or break them, known cheaters, unstable people, they are all a waste of valuable time that could be spent with someone whom it feels natural and safe to be with. Relationships shouldn't feel like a struggle.

I personally find online friendships much harder to navigate and haven't had much success with them.

Met my husband in Everquest 2 back in 05.

Met one of my best in game friends in wow back in like 07. She helped me move cross country.

I've found a few here that I thought were good friends, but turned out weren't. It's unfortunate, really.

I've had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful and kind people through this game. Even just doing roulettes. Got talking to one of my dps on a healer and find out she was a hospice nurse and got to thank her for taking care of peoples loved ones. I've made multiple close friends just from providing them a linkshell to hang out in where no one was going to be nasty while they were learning how to play MMOs.

I don't say this lightly when I say the strongest force in this world is love and you need to not only give of it, but also accept it into your heart when others offer it. To make a long story short, I almost died in extreme weather 4 years ago and I would not be standing here today and having gotten to fall in love with the man I want to marry had it not been for the love of strangers who rushed to help save me. I hope that you can move past whatever hurt you feel right now and start experiencing it again when you're ready.
