Criterion Dungeons(Savage) Should Reward Savage Gear

Add accessories and possibly twine/agents.

It would be beneficial to everyone that a 3rd ring would be available. Everyone needs the rings and most of the time you're forced on getting a stat you don't want.
Plus, gearing up alt jobs is such a pain. I won't be BiS before 3 weeks for my main job and only got the earring for my alt job.

As long as there's a path to criterion savage without having to raid.

Not until 6.3, not likely.
Besides, if you don't savage raid, you probably won't get much out of it anyway since it's supposed to be roughly savage difficulty, hence the name and ilvl requirement.

I think it's a valid criticism that you shouldn't require savage gear to reasonably do the content, especially in a time frame where even people who cleared week 1 might still be assembling BiS pieces or just, wish to do the dungeon on a different job than the one they geared for savage?

If crafted gear is insufficient, then you're looking at dumping weeks of tomes and books for raid gear just to be able to meaningfully participate, which kind of sucks if you're the kind of person who tanks for savage raids but would like to play healer in the savage dungeon. Or even just, people that weren't interested in the raid tier for one reason or another? Weren't around at patch release? Players technically capable of clearing week 1 that joined groups with slower prog times?

There's plenty of valid reasons why gear gating just serves as a barrier to entry; the flip side being that, sure, you should be able to use that higher iLv for *something* other than just killing the savage raids slightly faster, but I think making it mandatory hurts more people than it benefits.

Normal mode Criterion Dungeons could be a route into savage raids, then raids are a route back to savage dungeons.

It would be a waste, both lore- and glamour-wise, for ancient dungeons to drop modern tome gear.

i620 or higher makes sense, but it would have to be different gear, unless you get archaeological tokens to trade for gear of your choice or something.

I think it would be decent middle-ground to have Criterion as an additional weekly source of Augment materials, or maybe even an alternative way to obtain tome gear more quickly. As it stands, tome gear kind of remains the most annoying gate to gearing multiple jobs.

The savage tier clear rate exceeds 50% on some JP servers, and is typically around 25-40% on NA worlds. And that's full tier clear statistics taken only halfway through the last tiers lifecycle; There's a huge amount of people who only complete the first couple fights, so the proportion of people who engage with Savage is significantly higher than even that.

That is not 'very small' by any means. This old meme about savage being niche content really needs to die out.

I have no doubt that part of the design intention is to create an additional place for savage gear to be used, as the lack of content where Savage gear is useful has been a pretty common complaint over the years. Casual players, who are not the target audience of this content, will be able to access it later on through tome gear augments and other catchup mechanics.

I at least hope that the Extreme version of Criterion will be another path into the Savage version of Criterion. Otherwise it'll be disappointing to see such a stop gap to an otherwise possible interesting content for midcore players. :/

But it likely won't be midcore. It's labeled as savage difficulty and requires savage gear to enter. It's likely going to be hardcore difficulty just like savage raiding.
