There's no point to the RDM stars.

I think the point of it is not what you use them for, but how you get them: that either the single-target combo or Moulinet can equally build the charges to use Holy/Flare, instead of those being a continuation of the combo specifically while Moulinet would need a separate set of finishers. And you'd probably need to turn it into a three-hit AOE combo instead of just using the one skill three times.

Imagine complaining about the existence of a gauge that simply tracks how many melee moves you just used to use Verflare/holy and arguing if it should even exist in the first place.

Must be nice for RDM if that is the most burning problem to talk about.

Using part of your melee combo and then using Manafication breaks it, but you can absolutely use Manafication between your melee and spell combo phases. I do it all the time in dungeons, when I'm rolling into a boss with >50/50 (which is common if I lead into the last trash pack with an AoE combo, because I'll usually have enough time to regen back up to or nearly to 50/50 before the pack is dead). The stars specifically enable this, since they do not count as a "combo" to be broken.
