I will always find this weird. Everyone can isearch the same info, we can all pull up retainers that can be storing the same items, but for whatever reason the glamour dresser explodes the server.
The glamour dresser does not use the Retainer systems as neither /isearch nor the Summoning Bell are used to create and manipulate Glamour Plates. Inn rooms are separate instances, where no other player can interact with your glamour dresser. Apartments, FC rooms and houses and individual player housing could have other players interact with the glamour dresser simultaneously. This apparently causes problems.
I expect players would object if every time they went to use the glamour dresser there was a message indicating "The Glamour Dresser is in use by another player at this time" ... especially when I use it and then stand there for 30 minutes trying different outfit combinations. At least you don't have to go to a vendor in a major city every time you want to use a Glamour Plate, like that one game with a 'glamour collections system' requires.
Which still seems odd because the entire fc can be in the instance also using the preview window which can try on/dye all the items. It feels like every functionality separately works fine, but someone specifically thought it was a good idea to have a constant lock on the dresser instead of just calling up the function when clicked and then not caring if the dresser even exists. Maybe someone was just really stubborn about everyone seeing the open/close animation. I thought they also mentioned it having an issue with loading up all the items in the instance, but again, isearch checks all the dresser information and everyone in the instance can already do that at the same time.
(I know they would fix it if it were something simple, it's just one of those issues my brain refuses to accept)
