Either way. Such is life, with its highs and lows. Such is good storytelling. As far as the menial tasks go, I think people forget the kind of world this is. Just because we saved this place or that, there are still plenty of people that don't actually know who we are (clearly someone that doesn't let a little heroism get to their head). There's no viral video being circulated of our escapades.

Ah, the Barrens back in Vanilla, home to headless raptors, footless zebras, hideless boars, toothless wolves, and Mankrik's wife. All of them five to ten minutes apart on foot. Because it was a level 10-18 zone and you didn't get a mount until 40.

And some people are nostalgic for that. The mind boggles.

I dunno why people are complaining, is not like they can't move those silly MSQ quests to a side quest. If you like doing those quests, you still have a option to do, if you don't, then you finally have a option to not do

why? You don't need to do filler quests in real life, like going to grocery store or have a tea with your friends?

Things like that are good for world-building and they help keep our character grounded. They help us feel our place in the world.

Square tried a story more like what the OP wants with XIII. You were basically running from one hallway to another. You didn't really interact with the people in each hallway except for one or two story points. So you didn't find out much about them and you weren't really able to have a connection to them. Part of that was by XIII's design that you're essentially criminals, but we're not criminals. We're the Warrior of Light. Part of our personality is interacting with the world.

Nothing feels more pace breaking than the sky being on fire - all of creation coming to an end - and we have to play dress-up with some rabbits, or help someone's marital issues.

The filler quests don't belong once the ramp up has already begun.

The WoL: "Uuhhh, yeah?"

All the people of the world: "You're no longer allowed in any city for being such a jerk"

The WoL: "Oh, the humanity! If only i had continued to be a sucker for every random a-hole to exploit..."

I don't mean that as a negative; i just mean that the story is going to be whatever it is; and we just have to try to find enjoyment where we can find it, because not everyone is going to be pleased by something and it's impossible for the team to try and cater to every single whim we have.

Think they should let you choose if you want be a warrior of light or warrior of darkness at the start which would effect quests you get.

So a Warrior of Light, or a Warrior of Light by another name? Because being called the Warrior of Darkness really made no difference at all to what we did.
