Corporate greed of SE is something that worries me about the future of FF14 as well. With the CEO's want to get into NFTs and the selling of some of their highest profile IPs for said NFTs I have a feeling that the profits from FF14 are being funneled into projects that are doomed to fail. Like Saraide said, Babylon's Fall is a great example of this greed.

They are very much leaning into implications that they know better than us, especially with job changes and how they bend over backwards to rationalize bad changes that no one wanted. I can’t believe how far the team fell where now they seem out of touch and proud.

At its peak, World of Warcraft had ten million active players. Though it has since been on a sharp and steady decline it has yet to truly 'die' and will likely continue to be relevant in some form. There's a lot that Square Enix could learn not only from the disaster that was FFXIV's 1.0 era but the rise and fall of WoW. I'm not convinced that they will, though.

It took a sexual misconduct and harassment lawsuit by the state of California for WoW to "die".
Not the lack of development, over development and bloat of systems, constant redesign and scaling of systems, and generally bland gameplay loop that was on repeat for 7 years because it kept people running the hamster wheel.
It took a lawsuit from the state of California.

The state of WoW and its development had nothing to do with its decline.

Its not even that. This thread is just a standard WoW thread where "the game is bad and the devs are trash" that would be posted on the WoW forums, and draw a whole bunch of people into it for your viewing pleasure so make sure you bring your popcorn.

Also as a side comment since it was brought up, Brack wasn't wrong. How many months was it for WoW classic to die, again? The thing that everyone oh so badly wanted.
