Endwalker is the most controversial expansion

I know Final Fantasy is kind of known for pulling that trick, but it's super cliché.

Everything else about the expansion though I think was great. SGE and RPR are cool additions, the environments are super interesting and varied.

The endgame content so far has been very interesting. So yeah outside of story complaints that have been repeated ad nauseum I think Endwalker was solid.

Regarding the story, I also did not enjoy how they introduced the big bad half way through, made her the cause of literally everything else that has gone wrong in the world, and then wrapped her story up a few levels later. Just feels like a cheap, out of nowhere ending.

And for the endgame, I'm just starting to get real tired of the ultra strict, formulaic approach they take to it. I'd love to see some variety, some spice, anything. Also they ruined healers a couple expansions ago and have yet to do anything besides ruin them further, and I'm real salty about that still.

SE taking a page out of Riot's book.

I don’t know why I don’t see the issues so many others did with 6.0 MSQ outside Zokiark. I cried and felt emotional through it all. But I’ve always been invested in the stories and characters.

I do agree there are other issues that came about with EW like the housing and job changes.

That's a pretty hot take, most of the community is in absolute love with the PvP Changes.

For curiosities sake, would you care to elaborate?

SCH and AST mains weren't okay with Shadowbringers, their concerns and anger just got drowned out by the community and ignored by SE.

they absolutely destroyed those jobs with the ShB changes. and they weren't the only ones.

Endwalker has its issues, no expac will be as bad as Shadowbringers. Mediocre story, less content compared to Stormblood, terrible jobs, worse raids, worse trials, worse pvp... it was just an abject disappointment for 3 years.

Not seen anything bad about EW except on these forums. I think Stormblood was the most controversial because some people are able to take it in and appreciate it and some people aren't.

The changes are bemusing people more because there are more people to bemuse.

ShB was by far the most controversial, if you were a healer. EW only continued on that path.

It depends entirely on what a person considers a controversy.

I agree with the changes and controversies but disagree on the story. From a writing standpoint it's perfection (outside of the let down of Zodiark being hyped up as some ultra end game God and was barely a boss. I get the whole "he wasn't in his true form" and stuff but still, he should have been more important and harder). But the story itself from the fall of the Garlean empire to the touching upon the fact that fervent nationalism is no different than a religion and the Garleans were basically the same as everyone else. To the origin story of the world and time travel to the fermi's paradox the meaning of life and of suffering and how the conclusion is that suffering is inevitable and that you must grow strong and overcome it while accepting it's constant embrace is not simply good story writing but true to life. There are hundreds if not thousands of worlds out there that have met ruin or will meet ruin. No matter how perfect the system, government, religion, or world you attempt to create it will fall to stagnation and ruin and there will be suffering. Even if you perfect everything perfection itself is a kind of Hell. The lessons and morals taught in Endwalker and the overarching story are phenomenal and I feel go underappreciated due to the relative intelligence and literacy of the fan base namely those who didn't enjoy Endwalker.

I was really invested in the story and characters in Shadowbringers but I felt like Endwalker was a big step backwards.

My problem with the 6.0 MSQ was Labyrinthos was a filler zone, Thavnair part 1 was find the macguffin, part 2 was save the baby but I am ok with that, Garlemald was fine, Moon after Zodiark felt like filler, Elpis was fine for me though I was annoyed at how obvious it was that Meteion was the big bad after revealing her voice on the moon, and Ultima Thule was contrived and I hated how obvious of a bait it was with everyone "dying". Shadowbringers zones had their filler parts but the zones to me felt more meaningful to the story's progression.
