CC ranking system is simply bad

Is so funny to see some comments like this. Wake up, there are a few dozen of people queuing. I have played for hours and I keep finding the same people, and some times it takes between 3 and 5 minutes to get the next match.

This is not Dota, not LoL, there are not thousands of people in the matchmaking queue waiting.

It depends on time of day. Yeah, if you're playing at odd hours chances are that the player pool is only in the 20-50 range and you'll see a lot of the same faces. On the other hand, during prime time I can go hours without seeing the same person twice.

The system automatically pits you against a harder team when you're trying to rank up on purpose, it's a test to see if you can compete in that rank. I'm sorry you got new players, but that is the trouble of climbing from low ranks, you are playing with new players.

You're probably playing with new players in Crystal, too. There are far too few ranks and stars between tiers, combined with streak bonuses and being unable to lose tiers, means that people can reach even Crystal very quickly and just off of pure luck. Tons of players that have hit Crystal with ~50 wins, and once you're there you're locked in.

#1 thing people need to understand is that rank and tier are not at all correlated with player skill. It's not even a good estimate, frankly.

This is not right or shouldn't. There is no way "see if you can compete" in that rank. You could be the MVP of the round and still lose the match. Again, there is zero reward for individual effort.

This isn't true, though. If you play well, you will consistently win games more than you lose them. People aren't in top 10 with 6000+ credits and under 300 wins just out of blind luck, man. Nor are the people with 6000+ credits and 1000+ wins there out of luck. They are there because they play consistently and effectively over and over and over.

Picking the right class for the job helps. Some classes are better than others at compensating for weak teammates. Time of day that you're playing also has an effect, as I've mentioned. But the simple truth is that if you play the best you can, as consistently as you can, you *will* win games more than you lose them over time.

I end up seeing the player Ni Xi, on Crystal, in my games a lot. I guess we tend to be playing at around the same times. They are consistently moving up in ranks over the week and are currently #12, with quite a few credits and edging up on 1000 wins. Know why they're there? Because they are *consistent.* Every game I've had them in, friend or foe, whichever class they are playing, they bring a consistent and reliable level of performance. They are not always the best player in the game, but they are rarely if ever the worst or weakest. Consistency is key. I can say the same for several other players in the current top 20 on Crystal, many of whom I've had several games with over the past week or two.

Maybe you're new to the idea of laddering in a competitive field (not that this game is good for skill-based matchmaking, but whatever.) You can't let yourself fixate on the losses. Don't worry about the wins, either. Just focus on being *consistent*, every game. Think about what you did right, what you did wrong. Was there anything that caught you off guard? What can you change to prevent that next time? Was there anything you could have done to mitigate the loss or speed the win, even if the loss or win wasn't even really "your fault"? This is the essence of successful laddering.

hey, i never post here but after playing for more than 20 hours of CC in 3 days i think i needed to express my feeling towards this ranking system (all time WHM).
First of all i'm for the past 8 hours stuck in plats oscilating from 4 to 1. The whole system is highly RNG based.

You have the first filter : maps. The disparity with the lava map regarding the others is way too high for me. This map has the highest OOS possibility that basicly render any ranged class underperformed. Especially when you play a healer since you will be OOS by both sides and the frustration is through the roof. The main problem is the lack of visibility on your target's location.
I'm not going to talk about the cancel mid channel because someone got OOS is basicly wasted DPS while a melee will never get that problem due to the poor network that doesnt take into account small distance (if a melee follows you by1-2 m, every skills will hit you regardless if you managed to get an angle that should make you "untargetable").
Basicly the map have too many obstacle for such a small map and for a way too high mobility that players have. You could avoid this by not playing at the time the map is rotating tho..

The second is the group composition : As you can't coordinate with your teammates because of lack of communication/preparation, there are classes that will still perfomed well even in desync attacks. While others, you'll need to actually be way much more attentive to your allies (things that rarely happens.). So depending on your team, if all players have the same pvp level, there are dominant composition that will shatter your team just because they got paired right.

The third for me is the matchmaking : your whole progression will depend on your teammates.
i have to disagree with what the person above me is saying. The "get gud' comment is way out of touch when you really take a look at CC.
For instance, when i began playing CC, i was hardstuck in Bronze 4 for 7-8 hours straight, with ups and down, but mainly on the bottom tiers (50/50% winrate i would say). I decided to call it off for the day.
The next day i managed to get 7 consecutives wins that got me from Bronze to Plat in 1 HOUR top. So no, my level didn't grow overnight to get propelled 3 ranks above my initial in such a short time.

While it's quite common to be frustrated in ladder on any competitive games, in FF14 the added RNG you have no control on is even more infuriating for me. The added pressure for the consecutive win that is what makes the whole thing even worse aswell (even though it is a delight when that happens).

I have played some pvp in the past but not recently. In none of them I moved backwards in the rankings.
Maybe I just been unlucky, I guess. I been about to rank at least 4 times now and that last win that I need becomes a streak of losses, pushing me all the way back almost. And I am constantly on top of kills and dmg.
My point is that no matter how comfortable you are with losing, not progressing because your coin toss at match making is bad is strait up depressing and frustrating. Specially when personal scores not counting for nothing. I don't play games to get frustrated. Should I just throw the towel and give up? I will probably have to, but this feels like content I never finished....

Yeah, it just might not be for you. Square-Enix's ranking system is pretty much garbage and it will never change from what you're experiencing now - you will lose games through no fault of your own. Sometimes because you get teammates that are in a corner eating paste instead of playing, sometimes because your team is just given a heavily disadvantaged class makeup compared to what the other team got. If that's gonna get to you, it's probably better to stick to casual queue. I only do ranked because it does result in more fun, balanced games than casual does in my experience... though it's still quite a ways off from what I think it ought to be doing.

That's just it. You know something is bad when the better option is to not do it? The heck....
In any pvp game or mode you will lose, a lot. In none before I felt stuck, no matter how well you do.
