This forum is focused on anything and everything that you can conceive of being placed in a negative light. Don't take anything you read here very seriously. The quality of posting has decreased exponentially over the years.

Do we really have to have a new thread about this same old topic every single week or so? Are people incapable of using the Search feature and complaining in one of the 9999999 already existing threads? -.-
I mean, this forum has exactly two operational modes: Lack of Object Permanence (where if the thread falls off the first page, the forum no longer recognizes its existence since it has shifted out of sight), and Extreme Necromancy (where someone revives a balance thread that hasn't been posted in since late Heavensward).
Because a lot of us have been repeatedly exposed to behavior like this

I was under the impression that it wasn't necessarily limited to the first page for the first mode since I did a quick search before posting and got 2 other threads about mentors in the results. The threads about mentors get created so often that I'm sure at least one recent thread will pop up in the search.
Please tell me this person is trolling. I refuse to believe someone (mentor or not) is saying this seriously (especially the part about focusing 1 target at a time).
to that point
its a mathemathics how much dmg you can do on X targets and the time to kill it, related to how much dmg you do on 1 target and the time to kill it.
Not all games put AOE in a highlevel like it may be is possible in FF14.
Second point, more important: How many mobs do the tank survive with the heal he get in which time before the healer can not heal anymore or the incoming dmg is higher than the incoming heal.
With this you can build a formula (people did for WOW and from there i know it...) to calculate how many mobs a certain group can kill without a whipe.
The point of this novice is from his point of view right: its better just to pull one group with 3-5 mobs and kill them fast as possible. CHance for survival is much higher in this case.
But if the heal is bored because he dont even have a light DPS rotation, the tank just speed it up and pulls more than 1 group, until the find the balance between income dmg/time to needed heal/time.
in WoW to Burning Crusade times i was deepheal Shaman. Itw as when you could use more potions in a fight with CD. I killed a 5 man group Boss alone! a friendly Tank told me, the 2 times he tried this boss, his group whiped there....
How can a single shaman kill such a boss alone?
Boss dmg / time is less than Shaman heal / time simply said: i can heal more than the Boss can do dmg in a time
Boss heal / time is less than shaman DMG / time simply said, i do more dmg than the Boss can heal (he couldnt heal at all...) in a time
You start to struggle if the mob/boss can heal, then he will simply kill you... and it happend, with the exact same shaman, several times...
So, sorry to say it but yes, this Mentor has some good points in my opinion.
For bard, because its my favorit job, its said: 3+ targets AOE, under it are singleshots more effectiv.
dont know the calculation of other jobs to that matter...
Edited because taking wrong who wrote, it is a mentor not novice, so i had to correct my writing.
