I can come up with reasoning for the raid rings to be unique, so people aren't able to continue rolling after they have 2.
Tomestone rings being unique and then them removing that tag whenever it's not max level anymore has definitely been a strange decision for me. Maybe the goal is to try to force people into other content.
It's not a "slow process", it's what they explicitly said, that tomestone rings from old expansions would be updated to be non-unique. Shadowbringers tome rings were made rings were made non-unique when Endwalker released. Endwalker tomes rings will be made non-unique when the next expansion launches.
Oh man i wanna get 10/20 more ilvls on my ring, ive never done savage b4 but lets go!!!! Clear that P1S at 4 most times wohoo! Does anyone even think like that? Maybe the occasional person sure, i seriously doubt this is a good general incentive. ATM u can only augment ur tome gear via raid drops/books. I think that is a much better incentive.

"Xeno rings bell" WRONG WRONG WRONG! When it comes to rolling, it only checks if u have the same coffer already in ur possession in ur personal inventory (not choco saddle or retainers). This only stops u from getting two ring coffers in one go in case 2 of them drop (which is RNG).
I think blue ring is unique cuz:
-SE wants you to outsource the second ring in some other contents (crafted ring from marketboard counted cuz sellers will have to get crafters) instead of just spamming a content over and over.
-You won't have to worry about the second tome-cap ring or waste a weekly raid reward slots for another normal-raid ring, let you have more resources to invest in other role's gear instead.
Right, but that still limits the number you can roll on; If you have all of the rings, you can't open the coffer right? If you have a coffer you can't get another one. It still limits the number that you can possibly get, even though that number is 1 of each + 2 coffers + 1 coffer per retainer.
It's not a good reason at all and I doubt that is why they do it, but it still limits the number you can get (unless you continue to just throw away the coffers that you can't open, which would be dumb).
I see u wanna keep pressing this issue. U cannot open a coffer in an instance. It says so in the description. If u have every ring u could possibly want, u can still roll on them, only thing stopping u is ur morals: hey i dont need these any more, ill just pass. I would not call having all rings and having at least 4 extra ring coffers a limitation. I dont know what ur point is really, pls just drop this.
Im guessing this is a consequence of bad game design, we don't have different rings with different stats that both tanks and melee can wear anymore and there really is no reason to keep them unique really.
^ This. They changed this for the ilvl 530 gear (level 80) in Eulmore, and you can buy two of the same there now. So, it is exactly intentional in their methods at max level. Before, the Aug. Crystarium was unique with respect to rings, and I believe it was also changed for level 70 as well (ilvl 430?).
