good question bongi. is there a link to the <pos> of side-quest starter NPCs?
You can forget them. They seem to me like an alibi so that SE can say "we implemented quests", but in the end they're only adding insult to injury and are in no way comparable to, for example, the many dozens of quests which were added in FF XI since the "Aht Urghan" expansion 5 years ago.
What you can expect is simple "Kill 8 dodos" stuff like in levequests including map markers instead of farming. Main difference to levequests is that you have to run around more, there's no teleport back and you're not even getting sp/exp while doing them.
You should NOT expect to get a involving story with them, you do NOT get cutscenes, and you do NOT get a challenge. Concerning design and implementation they're on a level like FF XI back in 2002, except that even the fun is missing here.
Honestly, it was a mistake of SE to not reward players with EXP and SP from Sidequests. Something I always disliked about FFXI and now FFXIV is how leveling up and story-progression have always been two separate activities. SE could easily combine stories and leveling into one activity if they simply gave out EXP and SP as rewards for completing Sidequests.
I also have 19 quests completed, and looks like there will be more added as new patches come out. Hopefully ones that lead to better gear and/or cutscenes that improve the storyline of the game.
can you please post quests names and starter or provide a link.
i only know 18.
I've found 15, but I only looked each town once.
No quests on hamlets and stuff, right?
They may not be that great now, but look down the road.
Like someone said they may be necessary to unlock something later on, especially since they are progressive. I plan on doing them all eventually
Yes Bongi. It will appear on your map when you get close enough and you will see an exclamation mark on top of the NPC head. Here's the list for everyone who are having a hard time finding the sidequests.

Icons will pop up above NPC heads and on your minimap when you're close enough.
I've only gotten one so far, but it seems that either the game scans all your class ranks regardless of the class you're on, or all the sidequests show up all the time. I was running around on my carpenter and I had a sidequest pop up for a R10 DoW or DoM. Either way, it's nice to know that you don't have to run around every area on every class just to hunt for sidequests.
