Where is New World / Meracydia? Is there a map?

The meme-posting a while back about Meracydia was that since it was described as almost entirely a blasted wasteland populated by incredibly dangerous wildlife, that makes it one-for-one to Australia.

More seriously, I think it's going to be a mix of various inspirations, but will include at least one Australia reference (probably Mad Max related), because Koji Fox is world lore co-creator and he does stuff like that.

The existing South Seas isle glams suggest they're the equivalent between the flower lei from ARR and hibiscus-print tourist wear in ShB.

They're also supposedly the homeland of the Lalafell, which makes me wonder if they're already commercialized the place. Perhaps that's where the island sanctuary is located?

The hula dance from last year's summer event is from the South Seas Isles too.

Meracydia is the southern continent. Thavnar is an island. So it should be much bigger

I'm reminded of a completely different fandom where there was actual near-shouting arguments about whether Australia was considered a continent or an island, and whether one definition precludes the other.

(When I was in school the common knowledge was that Australia is a continent and an island, ie an "island continent". Apparently this is now disputed.)

Despite its similar geographical appearance to Australia, Meracydia is most likely the Africa equivalent.

Small tidbits that we know is that it contains witch doctors, actual cultural objects from West Africa and Egypt, and creatures from African myth.

For all we know, guys and gals, the mapping of the world that we saw on the moon might not be complete yet. While sure, they added them as nice touches for hinting the future content, they might not be the last things to be added on the world map.

Just looking at this map makes me excited for the future of this game...

Also the hippo calf minion says they're native to Meracydia, and hippos are native to Africa in the real world.

I'm assuming that it will be pretty much like Africa in a sense with a lot of allagan relic sites. Jungles and deserts, maybe assman v3 even! One could hope.
