I'm also using onboard Realtek audio and having the stuttering sound issue. I've found that I can reproduce it extremely easily by adjusting the CPU "Maximum processor state" in power options. I normally have it at 70% or 80%, as that keeps my fans from going into overdrive and literally shaking my desk and making it hard to hear anything (and is enough for pretty much anything I do).
If I put it up to 100%, the issue goes away (but CPU usage goes nuts). If I put it lower, it stops being intermittent and happens constantly. The lower you go, the worse it gets. It seems to be demanding a strangely high amount of CPU usage (which it never did before).
Newer drivers didn't help, playing with the audio settings didn't help (in-game, in windows, in the realtek audio manager). I did find that I can reset the audio without logging out by disabling/re-enabling headphone jack detection in realtek's software. It doesn't fix the issue, but it restored sound when I lost it from playing with other settings.
