Is Pre-Downloading a Thing?

I wonder if the update will start automatically if I leave the greyed out launcher screen open all night.

You'll have to upgrade it to the PS5 version. Its currently free to upgrade from the PS4 version to PS5

I'm not sure if it will turn green when ready to update, but login button will have to be physically pushed for it to attempt to update.

I just wish we could get an autodownloader.

According to a Japanese blog interview it was stated that DL of 6.0 patch file is scheduled around noon tomorrow Japanese time which is in about 2 hours.

Just booted up my PS5 and an update started for Endwalker. 7.612 GB download.

Mine is also downloading...on Windows.

Steam version here, but it's only 4000something MB. Seems small...

Downloading now, 4236.78MB.
