Live Letter Reaper Impressions

Much and Many thanks for your post, Lyth.

My own Reaper impression is simple... Reaper is More or Less what we Dark Knight players did want for Dark Knight...high Speed, complexity, fancy dark magic, and looks like Reaper even does sustain DPS more than Burst DPS...
with how fast the resources are built up and spent, it looks like constant sustained bursts, rather than slow Warrior burst nonsense...

To me, Reaper seems to be the shut-up about original Dark Knight shiny replacement, and I will definite throw Dark Knight in the trash and complete Abandon it, to play as and with this what looks to be a very great replacement...

I like the idea of stained DPS and spending the resource, for the most part, as you get it. It makes things more fun for me since I don't have to hold it for the right time all the time. The only exception being the shroud guage and raid buff windows.

Reaper will probably be the most fun I've had with a DPS in a long time. It also looks like at least the second most savage looking fighting asthetic class in the game. I love the thought using the voidsent as an oGCD on a regular basis and fusing with it in a pure wrath-like state.

Mr happy also has a preliminary video about reaper. He brings to light what the community has translated so far. My opinion is skill speed will be important. How much? Not sure. You'll want to build soul guage as quickly and consistently as possible to grant access to your shroud builders. Getting into shroud form and in raid buff windows will be crucial. Remember, everything is subject to change.

Edit: I compared SPOOKY MODE model changes between the 3 we have and they generally all look the same with being a robed hooded character...so diversity in appearance will just be slightly different? RIP glamour for burst mode I guess.

What I do love about it though is the battle stance changes to a more aggressive style. Instead of being more relaxed you get more predatory like an animal. Very cool.

Was unimpressed initially but after reading the tooltips and then rewatching the job trailer and liveletter again I think I get it now and I actually really like what they're doing on paper. It's going to be a pretty unique job that doesn't play quite like any other dps. I'm more on board now and will make unlocking it the first thing I do on Endwalker launch, but do still need to spend some time on a dummy to decide on if I then want to level it or stick with sam for my main.

Looking forward to RPR, though... even if, obviously, not another banal iteration of DRK.

Reaper basically is Dark Knight in everything but name. The XI Death Scythe as a preorder bonus for the job pretty much confirms this.

I was wondering about teleport orb.
Is it a part of the rotation or just a situational skill.

I think that they will be situational movement utility, as Harpe is just a basic long-range attack, and the buff given to Harpe is just instant cast...

In my opinion, I see no reason why the teleports need to be wasted as part of a rotation, like with Tank gap-closers.

The warp might have an associated buff with Harpe or Harvest Moon but I think the warp will see great use in PvP and dodging AoEs in fights and when warping back in.

According to mr happy (so take with a grain of salt) using the warp makes your next harpe instant instead of 1.3s cast time, so if that's the case it isn't good enough to make it into the rotation.
