I'd go back to Au Ra in a heartbeat, if only they could be taller. That height difference between the sexes is just weird.

I actually like the smaller size of my Fem Ra. Never judge a book by its cover ; )
But hell, I would love if it would be possible to add claws and a thicker, longer tail for my Au Ra. Or a pay of wings... maybe? ; )
Its actually balanced. Male Au Ra mate with other tall races. And vice versa for the female Au Ra ; )
Provided they exist, miqo'te fans who don't care much about the waifu look are (potentially) so lucky they'll be getting an alternative eventually... Wish we had something like that on the horizon to look forward to...
Don't get me started on their puny tails, male and female both... What the hell, SE?
Maybe I m paranoid, but I believe the tails of the Drahn (Au Ra in the first shard) are even smaller.
And I wish to have the earrings on the tip of my horns and not hidden under it. I want more decorations, because the horns, tails and scales are the beauty features of every Au Ra.
I suspect the development team realised that for all the celebrating there is around niche aesthetics, most people don't really put their money where their mouths are. It's much the same way as how many people go on and on about how amazing female roegadyn supposedly are and yet the reality is that they're amongst the least played race and gender combination in the game.
That's a given, I bet not only that, but they may have realized how many limitations would inevitably arrive with the implementation of viera (and/or a beast race). So instead they went for what would be popular for both males and females, while bringing a new 'unique' race to FF.
Well...taking a look at a recent Lucky Bancho census:

I don't think taller Raen and Xaela women would be nearly as popular as they would be if they were short. Especially since the taller a female character model is the steeper the drop off in terms of actual numbers is. Furthermore, Raen and Xaela women were ultimately designed in a way to conform to traditional standards of beauty in Japan.
