The game should have alcohol

there is nothing wrong about alcohol when youre drinking in small portions, thing is, that alcohol would be picture as a fun thing, something when youre drinking youre cool etc. thats my problem. even adults dont know theyre addicted. as someone said, try not to drink for lets say one week or month and see if you can resist. having this feature in game when its not yet here is just big no for me

How is this any different from gambling? Which is promoted in game. Heavily in fact. Other players shouldn’t have to go without something simply because other people have urges or addictions. I think people need to grow thicker skin and realize it’s a game. It isn’t real life. If people get triggered by it from the game well, that’s sad but to exclude it simply because of that minority is a bit messed up when they’ve already promoted gambling.

This viewpoint just might be a bit different for those responsible for adding in little details like this.

I'm sure some people at ArenaNet made either a strong enough case; or those responsible to say yes didn't care enough whether or not such a detail existed- so in such favorable emotes go into the game world.

Then you have Elder Scrolls Online; a lot of those folks are big drinkers to begin with- they have a bar built right into the lounge area at the main Bethesda HQ in Maryland. Plus the world itself of Elder Scrolls is stepped very much in medieval traditionalism; as with most fantasy games in the genre, there's alcohol everywhere.

Warcraft of course follows that same template.

There are probably other good examples, but the world of Final Fantasy "should" very much have these types of details, but as others mentioned, it is very much downplayed and not as overt or out in the open.

Like I said, it's about viewpoints, there are probably people at Square that just simply take issue with it.

i wouldnt try to compare gambling and alcohol, since both are wrong . i wonder what sort of gambling is in this game. Jumbo Cactpot ? well when you dont see around you drunk youngers your family affected by this, i guess you dont care much about it. just lets have fun yeah... i agree with OP it can be fun, but just can. so i hope they are not planning.

I don't know if I would call it "wrong" per say, I just think that both activities can be very self-destructive. Which is fine if you don't take it too far.

Would that not be a matter of perspective and subjective morality? They're only bad in cases where people take them too far which isn't everybody.

Uh...the literal giant zone that’s a huge casino. Which includes betting on chocobo racing,spending money on mini games, gambling your money away on scratch offs etc etc. Im comparing them because they’re both serious addictions irl. They’re fine promoting gambling though so there’s no reason they shouldn’t include alcohol at this point. I personally struggled with a dad who was a severe alcoholic, but i’m able to separate a video game from real life so i don’t let it affect me. I’d personally thoroughly enjoy seeing it added and seeing the opening for rp and even gameplay it could add.

Can I ask what delineates killing, stealing, and things like that from gambling and drinking?

If they will raise age rating of the game along the way in entire world and not just in a couple of countries (I look at you, Russia with 18+ age rating on FF14) - sure, why not. It's about time to raise the rating anyway, honestly speaking, given all the things the game has.

Sounds like a nice RP addition, especially considering that it's not like WoL doesn't drink - Dwarfs beast tribe quests and last Role Quest you get after finishing all 4 of them quite openly shows that we do, at least occasionally. I probably wouldn't want to see any long lasting sub-effects, but a couple minutes debuff could be fun (not in battle, though, since people fail mechanics even without being drunk).
