Where to go with the Lily Gauge

In my opinion the right way to improve Lilies is to retool them in such a way that the DPS tax for using them shifts from Misery onto a DPS Lily. The way I accomplish this is by altering the caps and costs involved. Four Lily charges. Two Blood Lilies, and Blooming a Blood Lily only takes two. This does come with the potency issue kabooa described above, but it’s aim is to compete with the other healers raid buffs. I’d rather add DPS neutral assize-like heals that don’t let of Lilies as a complimentary option for any further healing boosts.

Looks to me like thr lily system could use a Lily spender a la Energy drain. Not necesarily as a damaging spell, maybe in the form of a self buff for a bit of potency on the next spell you cast.

I think the biggest issue with that right now is that unlike SCH who needs to use their Sacred Soil, Excogitation, Lustrate, and Indomitability, Afflatus Solace/Rapture are extremely unnecessary as heals. When progging new content, they're nice to have sure, but you could very easily just get through with planning your Medica IIs and Regens for more healing potency in the long run. So if we add a spender like a 100 Potency Afflatus attack, it would just completely overshadow Solace and Rapture which just don't need to be used really.

One option could be to just merge Solace with Regen and Medica II with Rapture. That would also accomplish making the lilies a much earlier system that new players could start getting practice with if they are lowered down to the levels Regen and Medica II are learned.

like A Mantra or Heart of light kinda skill for WHM

I don't like the idea of having a lily spender on WHM. It feels like a cheap copy of SCH and I don't want the healers to feel even more similiar. Instead I would rather have a trait that makes it worthwhile to hold lilies. Let's say maybe a 2% spellspeed increase for each lily in your possession so 4% with two lilies and 6% with all three. This way holding the lilies is beneficial and allows them to be there for healing Emergencies without having such a huge benefit it feels risky to actually use them.

It'd be nice to have more spells or ogcd like Assize that heal and deal damage, let WHM embrace the green dps

I'd rather have Assize as a GCD with 45s cooldown...

I have thought about it, and I have come around to question should Lilies and Aetherflows really be so readily consumable. Letting you spend your "precious gauge points" (yeah yeah, I know) on just filler damage would feel like concession that nothing interesting can be done with any of these systems. You get a lily every 30 second and then you blow it for some potency damage. Lilies are a different kind of scarcity to just long recasts, you will always have a benediction ready if you need it as long as you have not cast it for a while, but bunch of lily abilities with severe contextual usage would be a way to punish you for misusing lilies on something you did not need right now.

Lilies spent on damage is lowkey admission that you cannot be expected to keep them until you need them. Or maybe that is good if you have a 1 lily cost damage dump, and then everything valuable that seriously enables a different kind of WHM to properly heal costs atleast 2-3 lilies per ability.

Only way I'd tweak this is with an overcharge mechanic to the lily, where:

• You gain overcharges whenever you'd get a lily and already have max lilies(up to however many lilies you have max)
• Overcharge lasts until you leave combat
• You lose an overcharge whenever you'd gain a lily and it wouldn't put you at lily cap
  ex: You gain your second lily, but have an overcharge, you'd lose the overcharge and gain a third lily
  ex2: You gain your third lily, and have an overcharge, overcharge would be unchanged
• The SpS buff goes by however many overcharges or lilies you have, whichever is greater

That way you aren't severely punished whenever you have to spend lilies, and by being smart about how you are using lilies you can build up enough overcharge that your SpS doesn't tank when you need to push out the healing.

Lilies could be spent in either a variety of healing or supporting tools, a straight DPS spender would result in what we had (or still have?) with SCH: people would avoid spending lilies on healing at all cost.
