sadly his stardrive did not kill them all before they butchered what made the viera cool just like the cat boys did with the cats
this reminded me of this:

i was more shocked to find people online still thinking that the males don‘t exist/never existed.
they existed but they was not important they should have stayed that way the best part of ff 11's cat race is that all the men nearly extinct so they never played any important role in the society
but in ff 14 they had to give into the manchilds that wanted playable male cats because they wanna! would have been nice to have at least one race with no men allowed!
If I had a stomach like that I'd be out of hiding every day.
The Miqo'te race is noted as being genetically inclined towards producing more females then males, though they don't seem outstandingly rare since there's a decent number of male Miqo'te NPCs out and about.
As far as I can recall male Viera weren't noted as being rarer then females, though in the original Ivalice lore they were said to live in their own communities separate from the females, so it wouldn't surprise me if that ended up being integrated into XIV's lore. All that was really said about them thus far is that the adult males take other males into their care once they're of age and are very elusive, avoiding contact with basically everyone outside of when they occasionally visit female settlements to sire children.
We see a good number of female Viera in mixed race settlements on the First, so I'd assume the same probably holds true for some places on the Source and if they were willing to abandon their traditional ways for a more conventional lifestyle, I'd think some males would probably follow suit as well.
Avoiding females, they appear, mate, and claim any young adult males that might be about before disappearing until the next 5ish year cycle.
One guesses like many species there are plague times when a large number appear, and lean times when the numbers are thinned quite out. Last mating frenzy would have been (earth year) 2017. We were busy in Doma Castle at the time, and the nature of the world meant that was likely a lean cycle - enough reason not to have noticed the last breeding frenzy.
As boom often follows lean; this coming 2021 cycle will see Goblet thick with a plague of BunBoys searching out any new males, and mating.
Why the Goblet, and not their village? Likely the village is a mess from so many Au Ra driving their Regalia about. Loud revving engines, noisy radio, screeching tyres would drive anyone ragged from the lack of sleep. And there are lots of beds in Goblet after all! A great place to jump in the sheets and catch some respite from the noise as they teach their new male companions.
the end of the world seems like a reasonable reason to bring them out dont u think? lol

however that is irrelevant since I don't think we should count the player characters into lore populace, npc count of them will likely not be too high.
