It all kind of started as a joke; but, after awhile it rang true. Many players, myself included, get a lot of joy out of glamouring our characters.
Some gear you may have to grind for, others come easily, and some you get by pure luck. Glamouring is a way to show your creativity.
It's up to you what to make of what you have and you set your own goals on what to get to improve upon your ideas. It's the "end-game" because it never ends.
Sure, there are some people who may be using glamour as a means of bragging about the amount of gil they've made or the how far they have progress in raiding. I haven't seen them, though.
I dunno, most of the people I see that use glamours use what they like and enjoy it. I find it fun to get new outfits and try to mix/match things, and toy with blends of generic items and job sets.
This isn't really WoW, and I'm saying that having spent some time in WoW's hardcore scene- majority of players in FFXIV are not trying to brag or feel superior with their glamours/collectables.
well... here we go again... with another troll...
FF 14 is not a pay to win game, so no, "useful items" will not show up on mog station because its just cosmetics, or glam. they do not force you to have them, if you want them, then fine, if not, dont buy them. simple as that, a very simple concept so not sure how you dont get that. thats why, if you notice, they are listed as OPTIONAL ITEMS
second, people do end game differently, maybe you prefer the end game job that WoW is, thats fine, everyone plays differently. FF 14 the gear designers seem to put some aesthetic thought into it on occasion and the gear looks nice. people get tempted into trying things because of a look, more than they HAVE to do it for the stats. I personally think that makes the game more enjoyable because its doing things that are needed so I can get a piece for an outfit, its not for bragging, its because I think it will look nice together. I prefer this system over mindless grinding for a bit of gear that gives me +5 of some stat which will become useless when the next patch/exp hits.
a good look is forever... a good stat... maybe a couple months... if you are extremely lucky.
as for some of those glowy weapons... they are a LOT of work, more than I am generally willing to do. anyone that has one, I have a LOT of respect for. they are a truly epic amount of work for something that looks nice, but has no other uses than glam. so bragging rights? sure, I will allow them that, and its why there are not a ton of them out there.
The game absolutely encourages glamour to be a goal. You've got otherwise useless cosmetic pieces that can only be crafted using rare drops from treasure maps and require high level crafting classes, you've got the dyeable raid and tomestone gear being harder to acquire than the normal versions, you've got the PvP sets which require running content to get, FATE world bosses that drop tokens for fancy cosmetic items, the crafted glowing trial weapons require grinding the fights themselves for the crafting items to drop, glamour items that drop from events, etc, etc. Some people have been putting themselves through Labyrinth of the Ancients or the Ivalice raids just for full sets of cosplay glamour.
Even then, there are a lot of people who incorporate really cheap pieces of vendor gear into their outfits because it looks good.
Sure, some of it like the Ultimate weapons and the Feast stuff are bragging rights, but it's less "haha you casual loser" bragging and more "I put a lot of effort into this and am happy with myself" bragging. Like, I don't use the rare mounts and minions because I want to dunk on someone else for not doing it, but because I think they look neat or cute and I'm happy I was able to get them.
In a way it fixes the issues of vertical progression. Older raids and content may see interest due to fact that glamouring is taste based and not stat based. What is a trash gear for one, may be the perfect missing piece for another and thus a non-end game content gets played and stuff bought. Not to mention with FF XIV being strongly about community, ability to express yourself via style is a major healing factor amist gear/bragging rights chase.
I just saw the title and knew who posted it.
Yes. Sometimes you just have that itch to wear something new and maybe play with gpose.
It is also a form of bragging rights to have a unique fancy glamour that makes people stop and run back just to check out your character. Or to have more mounts than anyone you know.
