I want to say I react the majority of the fight. Sometimes the boss does something and I will remember what they do right after. But for the most part I am reacting to a mechanic being set up, or the cast bar. I am never thinking weight of the land-bombs-geol-landslide, or whatever script there is for any boss.
Clearly you have not see E12S as the junction combinations are random. Adding more RNG to fights automatically creates class imbalance as some classes will be more efficient at avoiding said RNG. There are very few fights in most MMO's that are actually RNG and unpredictable.
This sounds like a very specific new encounter though.. as you have to remember which combo the boss "charged" since they'll sometimes wait between several moves to release it.
Personally I have an absolute crap short term memory so It's a little harder for me. I understand why people might complain.. but that's the only "memory" game I have a problem with. Learning WHAT bosses do hasn't really changed at all. Most of them will always have a "prep" cycle anyway where you can refresh your memory of what moves they do.
That mechanic is the worst of them but far from the last of them. That was what finally broke and destroyed my desire to raid in this game. It does not belong in a casual / story mode raid, its too complex, too fast, too unforgiving. I have a bad short term memory so that mechanic is just never going to click for me. After trying the encounter four separate times with an average death count of twelve per run, I just quit and walked away, destroyed, dejected and crushed. It was the most soul crushing experience I had in this game so far and I... I just don't want to feel that way again. The second half of the new trial also left me feeling battered and bruised so I don't have that as a refuge. So I have really nothing left to do... its sad and just breaks my heart thinking about it. I never wanted to be here but here I am and it just brings me to tears at times thinking about it.
I disagree with that. The Rathalos fight is suprisingly, a great fight which forces you to observe the target and abuse its small windows between mechanics as opening. If a player just stand arround close and don't expect to get hit by something, said player would just make a fool out of himself. This Game desperately needs something fresh when it comes to its Combat System (and Jobs in general but thats another Topic) and just because you and a select few don't like it, doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad mechanic, as mentioned before it works fine in WoW and i see no reason why it shouldnt work here since the Rathalos fight works just fine with a fair amount of Difficulty.
Seeing how people have enough issue memorizing a fight as is. We don't need a bunch of RNG.
Also, 1/4 of the people have enough of the time adjusting their rotation with RNG to keep their output high.
That's the point of the matter. To get challenged for once and actually HAVE a hard time dealing with something that is unpredictable. Instead about worrying about pointless things such as "keeping your dps output high enough so that you can yeet the boss in a matter of 2 minutes", there should be at the very least, optional content if not main content as well, that allows those that thirst for a Challenge have some playground. And if that content isn't for you, then you can always do other stuff since the others seem to be more of a concern for you than your own matters and preferences.
It works fine in WoW because the engine is a completely different one. You get enough server tick issues in this game with mechanics being entirely predictable. The simple fact is that what works in WoW a.i. watching what the boss does and dodging last second does not work in XIV.
Granted the Rathalos fight has easy tells and enough time to dodge those but whenever you try to dodge them at the last second you basically toss a coin on whether or not the server has actually registered that you're not in the boss' path anymore.
