Light-hearted? Only if you aren't paying attention at all. Look just the tiniest bit beneath the surface and you should quickly notice that Eorzea is in many ways a dystopian hellhole. It is not a nice place at all. Same goes for the First.

There are plenty of darkness (in every sense of the word) in the game, even if they don't always hit you over the head with it.

System Configuration > Display Settings > Full Screen Mode Gamma Correction > 0

Now it should be dark enough.
