Seriously, though, I wouldn't be surprised if it was some weird kink of theirs. Unless you think it's coincidence that Rowena enjoys keeping her sweaty, shirtless, muscular ex around all day.

It's the running gag but as others have stated, he probably secretly enjoys being her slave. There's probably more to their past than we know and who knows, maybe they'll get married one day-- of course they won't because the gag wouldn't be as funny, probably.
