More item spaces inside houses please, time to upgrade?

Housing plots should have 200 for a small, 400 for a medium and 600 for a large in my opinion. The current allocations leave a lot to be desired. They also need to try and expand the outside allocations and as a minimum and exclude mail teleporting as part of your inventory placement numbers.

I can see where this will go and I do agree that more spots are needed. But lets face the truth here of will happen with this example

SE: We have increased furnishing slots as follows

Small: 400
Medium: 600
Large :1000

Months later...

PLAYERS: We need more furnishing spots there is still not enough!!!!

Of course, people always want more.

At a minimum, I'd like to see all interiors get the roughly same item to floor space ratio. Here's a summary of something I posted 2 years ago when I compared interiors using a tile from the White Marble Flooring as a unit of floor space. Space occupied by stairwells was not included in the count.


Apartment/FC room: 48 tiles - 2.1 items per tile

Small: 104 tiles - 1.9 items per tile

Medium: 222 tiles - 1.4 items per tile

Large: 595 tiles - 0.7 items per tile

Personally I think the item to floor ratio on apartments/FC rooms would be good if it weren't for the default walls and windows we're usually trying to cover up. Increasing the apartment limit by 20-25 would handle that.

Larges need a big boost, though. Getting it to about the same ratio as a medium would be a huge help. Default wall space to floor space ratios in mediums and larges is quite a bit less, and it's rare that an owner is trying to section off the entire interior into roughly apartment sized spaces.

By making the ratio right, would fix all problems to be honest, and give people item room to spare as well, well put!!!

The problem usually stems from the fact that SE under-delivers when it comes to its features. For instance they add more glam slots but it only bandaids the issue and we realistically need twice as many slots for the amount of classes available and glam combinations for our tastes. But in reality we would much prefer the Guild wars 2 approach of "you unlocked it, you can glam it any time you want from this convenient menu". But, FF14 is limited with what it can do and it's about bandwidth more than anything. GW2 doesn't have anywhere near the amount of glam as FF14 which says something about the sheer depth of the game.

With that said, 400/600/1000 is a lot better than than what it is right now and I feel that would be the right amount. Even if you clutter/glitch a lot, you would be hard pressed to go beyond that limit which means that players are likely not to complain if there is a pretty rational limit put in place. Right now, the limit was set because of the PS3's capabilities from what I heard. I doubt many would demand more space if the amount was around the right amount. Maybe 400 is too little by 10 or 20? I don't know, the only way we would know is if it were implemented and the world tried it for a while. Odds are 400/600/100 would be reasonable, or maybe 400/650/1000. Something like that.

I think SE should decide on a hard limit that they will never change. I have a high end rig, but there was this house I went into where the homeowner jammed so many things into one corner, I actually felt some lag/slow down. Needless to say I left pretty quickly, and it was a eyesore to see so many things in a tiny space when the house was a mansion...to boot.

There is a Lala here on Lamia who is well known for his house. One for how creepy and uncomfortable it makes you feel, and the fact that the lower floor causes a huge FPS drop. He has put lanterns on the ground in the shape of a satanic circle with a pedastool in the middle and roasted bird on it. rofl Ill post of a image of it when I have a chance its quite funny and brilliant all at once.

They do have a hard limit, it's 200 I believe for the limit of objects seen on-screen and the limit prior Shadowbringers was much lower making it almost impossible to be creative. That being said, anything outside this range will pop in/out. But just because one person likes to cram a lot of things in an ugly manner, does not mean others will. Take for example the "shop" theme. It requires a lot of items to be put on display. Whether it drops your framerate or not is irrelevant since someone will always have a slower or faster computer. What is important is being able to decorate the way you want to (It's your house after all). If the limit is raised to 400 for a small house let's say, there still will only be 200 items per floor as the visible limit. Unfortunately FF14 is buggy so it renders the basement and upstairs at the same time depending on the order of placement. Who really knows what will happen but a drop in framerate on a slower computer should not be the absolute indicator.

I know memory issues are a thing, the game engine running FFXIV might not be able to properly render more items without having issues with culling but yea I'm definitely in the camp of at least doubling indoor slots inside for all sizes, my medium has it's basement blocked off by walls simple because i Don't have enough slots to decorate it. I like to leave aout 20 or more slots just for seasonal decorating.

Maybe some other adjustments could be made too, such as:
> things placed on tables/walls counted all together as one item with slot restrictions to how many things you can have on say on a partition/table/estate walls
> ability to turn on/off floors (say if you don't want a basement/top floor), with a warning if you have things in said floor or in space where they intersect such as on stair landings.
> ability for us to sink a bit more gil and "pay" for more housing slots
> maybe a flexible housing slot system where you gain more slots as long as you keep your plot, or get <3's from message book... (not good in this current climate where people who have left the game who didn't relinquish there plot still has their house with no auto-demolition in place since they halted it)
> ability to upgrade/downgrade interior instance (doesn't effect outside) so say you have a small house but you wanted the room of a mansion inside you could, but still be limited on the outside)

Would be nice for +10 more outdoor slots for all houses too, maybe even a way to have an actual indoor "garden" for apartments which allows you to place outdoor furniture, maybe like a balcony leading outside the apartment complex, could also have like an "apartment allotments" sort of thing though that would take more instances which I don't think they'd ever do.

There's so many things they could do then just add more wards. Imagine if we could buy an apartment, change the interior size to a mansion and have a balcony for outdoor furnishings. They might have to not allow things like a chocobos stable on the balcony. Would be nice to be able to teleport directly into a house/apartment then having to change instances (teleporting to housing area -> going into estate/apartment building -> going into a fc room/apartment room). Another thing that would be nice is if you had Personal Housing rooms too, maybe allow friends (or just tenants) to add rooms to it like an fc house/apartment building.

Being able to rearrange floors would be nice too, say you want a small house without a basement but a floor above instead/ maybe a 2x length room, maybe if we could rearrange features such as where stairs are, where estate and room inside entrance doors are. I wish it wasn't as limiting as it is, could be cool to have floor names/room names too, actual rooms would be nice too. There is so much they could do if they spent time on it.

This is kind of reminding me about an older mmo which had better housing customisation (Runescape, oldschool) where rooms were grid aligned but allowed you to arrange your house based on your "construction" Level the higher that was the bigger the grid and more rooms you could have, you could even have a upper and lower floor too, heck you could have rooms which added stairs where ever you wanted, creating a room above it on the map (pretty much allowing you to have multiple different upstairs areas. Granted each room had specific uses and specific spots to place furniture but I don't think it had slot limits (though room limits gated how much you could put in) and the houses where there own instances, adding rooms/relocating house all cost in game currency, and this was in around 2004. Granted there wasn't "housing wards" and the instance contained the indoor and outdoor portion on its own instance, you just had a choice of a portal in certain towns on the main world map which allowed you to go to your housing instance (or a friends/invited players).
