I should also mention this for those who want to know a bit more. There is only one method of summoning in the game
From the egi to the primals , in order to summon you need 2 things Aether and information.
The carbuncles get the information from the gems
The egis get it from the pure essence of the primal that you have coloured your aether in
The demis get it from the aether youre transmuting with trance
The fairies like Semir said get it from the job stone (i should recheck this , to confirm it)
The primals get it from the prayers of those who summoned it
And the peak of it is being able to summon merely by thinking what you want to summon


You can summon and do anything you want , anything at all with one exception. that exception being a soul.

The story also says that not a single one of the summons is alive or has a will of its own nor are they revived. all of it is how the information said they would be.

Guys lore wise acn/sch/smn is one thing , the reason they arent one is cause 1 it would be stupid op and 2 job stones.
Smn magic and Sch magic is both arcanima , theyre not different jobs but rather different specializations. Not only that 5.3 dropped the lore bomb that creation magic is arcanima, which means according to ehmet we can do everything imaginable except creating a school. Both sch and smn lore wise could make their pets look like manjimutt if they wanted to at this point.

The way soulstones work is what makes them different jobs, and if you don't want to go there, then the roles they've been assigned does that as well. SCH deviates so far away from ACN, it can hardly be called a specialist of that class at level 80. If my impression is correct, "Arcanima" is a derivative of 'arcana' or 'arcane' which is the catchall term for the magic of this world. However, even if we want to dismiss that and look at SCH and SMN as using restorative and offensive of the same type of magic respectively; the nature surrounding SMN Egis and SCH fairies are different.

Both Lily and Egis are constructs that use the caster's aether to be given form. This is true. The appearance of SMN Egis can be manipulated to whatever the caster wants because while they may carry the essence of Ifirt, Garuda, and Titan; they do not possess any part of their consciousness. They act instinctively, or at the command of the SMN. Lily on the other hand, is sentient. She retains her memories from one summoning to the next, even if it is a different user as is the case with us as she is part of the soulstone that once belonged to Surito. She can act on her own accord as is demonstrated in several of the SCH quests, and can even use gestures as a means to communicate.

Funny and ironic thing about Lily: Because she is this 'otherworldly' being that requires aether to be given a form and sustain it to exist in the physical world, it makes her much closer to being a primal than an Egi. Just on a much smaller scale as she exists within the SCH's soulstone, and can only be called forth by one whom resonates with it. She also is completely dependent on the SCH's aether, and will not be able to sustain her form should the SCH be knocked unconscious, killed, or in the case of Surito; detached.

So lore-wise, there is actually a reason why we cannot manipulate the appearance of Lily other than her color.

ill check it out in game my dude, cause if she indeed has a soul thats massive. The aetherial construct however is still the same as if it was an egi carbuncle or primal

The SCH quest line is pretty clear that it's a unique being that's being summoned each time as opposed to, for example, just creating a new distilled essence of a primal like SMN does. It even goes into how Eos and Selene are twin aspects of the same being. I don't recall all the exact details, but each fairy is tied to a specific SCH job stone and the one you obtained is linked to the fairy named Lily. I think there was even a reference to them being creatures that Scholars had learned to bind or control so they're not even something the Scholar really creates like an egi.

Found what i needed Quest unsung heroes its in the journey dialog

According to Surito carito , the gemstone is the crystal core of the statue you defeated and it contains potent white magic. He surmises That lilac , a part of Setotos fathers consciousness , was driven by the strong desire to cure Setoto.


It seems that i am correct, they are not alive they are exactly like the rest. Give me my cookie now :3

Ill write a summary on this :

Firstly like i said and found in the journey The faries indeed dont have a soul , they work like the rest of them
Heres the deal what we use for info is not our fairy , its in fact another scholars fairy, its their will that has been embed on the stone its their construct and more specificly Its Suritos Caritos
all we do is simply provide the aether for the fairy.
I now wish we could have an empty soulstone in order to summon our own fairy :C
For the original question i think the answer is no but i lack info. In the case of carbuncles, egis and demis we can change them cause they are basicly made how we think of them since in the case of egis and demis those who summoned them are long gone , but on the current fairies , like a summoned primal the creator is still alive. The only time something like that happened was with ehmets city but he allowed us to interact with them and even that wasnt akin to this conundrum.


So in conclusion you guys put a nice question and now i need to go search more :p

I believe the gemstone you're referring to is indeed a crystal core found within a statue embedded with white magic; that is not the soulstone you carry that once belonged to Surito. Your soulstone is not recovered from a statue, but from stolen artifacts purchased by Alka Zolka (the marauder that serves as your quest NPC) long before even meeting Surito.

Going back through my journal, Alka concludes the 'otherworldly being' that you can call forth at will has actually been in slumber for 1500 summers, and you are tasked with taking her to several locations to essentially help wake her up as the locations should stir her memory. After this is done and as a result of these interactions around La Noscea, Alka is later able to conclude (not surmise mind you) that for some reason he cannot explain, your faerie indeed has its owns thoughts, feelings, and memories.

In the next quest Lily, on her own accord, actually stops Alka from delivering the killing blow to a Tonberry that has appeared. It is at this point that Alka is aware that even though your Faerie is a sentient being of her own volition, she still obeys the commands of her summoner and bids we become more practiced in doing so. However, it isn't until the end of this questline when the same tonberry appears in the Wanderer's Palace that Alka realizes that this tonberry that Lily keeps stopping him from killing is Surito Carito; Lily's former master. Recognized by her despite his altered appearance.

I honestly don't know how much more you need than that to know that Lily is as to an Egi, as night is to day. She is quite possibly even more alive than the SCH she belongs to.
