I personally don't have much hype for the job but neither anti-hype lol. Although if they made it from Garlean medic I think that would be particularly interesting. I think the gameplay for chemist might be challenging since it might lend itself really well to those who've memorized fights- depending on how much actual mixing there is. Like a black mage of healers lol- got the fight down? Then do amazing. Don't? then... Don't haha.
Whatever happens certainly seems 'a healer's should be coming next. Or a healer riot lol.
Fixed that for you. . . . XD.....
Oh God please yes to it as a job. Or an advanced job (both normal and limited). Almost assuredly absolutely 'meh' if it was limited unless they went 10,000% effort and made it develop with a lot better flow than blue (and ideally solo-ability).
It being limited makes me scared I'll hate it, I don't care for PF (doesn't work well with my terrible consistency of schedule and needing to be able leave on the spot if the queue / wait time is too much (don't read that as leaving duties, I don't do that but that's because I calculate the time I need once the wait time is up before I confirm)) and so blue went almost 100% into the waste bin for me by their design of it (besides a number of other major gripes I have with how they designed it, definitely not a single point issue with blue).
Because healer mains are desperate for a interesting class but as a healer main i expect to be disappointed since they really don't seem to like working on healers but that's also due to the fact that WAR keeps getting buffs and it gives me the impression that they're busy 'fighting the last war' meaning their priorities for certain classes feel like they're out of touch, buffing WAR with a seeming urgency like it's always patch 2.1 where they really had to fix it. MNK being left as it is because SB MNK wasn't what they intended (even though it was fun for some). Just feels like they use their collective brain power for WAR and BLM and an expansion's problem child (MCH this time) and then the rest of the classes seem to end up not as well thought out. EDIT: [char limit] but I am fully aware I say this out of ignorance there might be issues that are altogether unclear as to why certain classes end up the way they do and I still very much enjoy their work. I do wish there was more engagement with healers from the dev team but their schedules are mad busy I'm sure
My friend had an idea to give them a gunlance so they can shoot healing up your butt.
Idk about you, but that sounds like a great time to me.
1. It's the last dead ringer for a Healer Job that already exists in Final Fantasy that they could add without them having justify its role; it's low hanging fruit. It's also brings a unique aesthetic since it presumably wouldn't use magic unlike the other 3 and also has the potential to have a unique Job based mechanic like AST in the form of Mix.
They'd be as similar as SMN / SCH. They share an overall theme but seeing as how they'd have completely different purposes and end goals there's no reason to not add it. (One you use in combat the other you don't). You could easily justify the lore and say that Chemists understand how to apply their medicines effectively and instantly in battle while Alchemists don't.
2. If I had my way I'd keep the name as Chemist, so CHM. But If the name needed to be changed to avoid confusion I'd call it Medic - MED.
3. If the Mix would function like we assume it will, it'll operate on the GCD like DNC and NIN currently do; I could be wrong but it shouldn't be much of an issue.
4. Healer. Healer. Healer.
5. Nothing you mentioned, but if they were to add Chemist I think they should revamp the names of the role divisions from 2 to 3, because as it is now putting it in the healer spot would definitely cause confusion, so:
Disciples of War
Disciples of Magic
Disciples of Mending/Healing

I've said before - I don't get the animosity towards robes, or the complaint that they all look the same/boring. There's as much variation in them as anything else, and I absolutely expect my mages to be in robes most of the time, just like I expect tanks to get armour.
As to the idea of them not getting Healing gear? I doubt it. If we're taking 5.3 and the term apothecary as hints, then that (for me at least) is absolutely compatible with the image of a potion brewer in robes.
The one existing thing I can immediately think of in-game to suit the idea is the Ramie Robe, which never seemed quite right for any of the other mages but I think it would work well for a potion-maker.
