Increase your attention span by watching them. Seeking your instant gratification, even in this small way, is only going to make your attention span shorter and shorter.

That's totally fine as long as you don't expect the same from others.

I like to watch all the cutscenes, but sometimes there are impatient people complaining about players who watch them. I've heard of players wanting to watch the cutscenes getting urged to skip them by their friends or FC members.

I don't really like a lot of the story, and I mainly play for the gameplay so I wish the story wasn't forced like it is. It's nice to have in the game, though. I just wish it was optional.

Each to their own, I guess. If I ever felt the urge to start skipping cutscenes then I'd take that as a sign that I'm no longer invested in the game itself.

I enjoy the story for the most part, though it can be overly preachy at times in some regards. A lot of the characters spout the exact same talking points that make them sound and act more like modern day politicians than part of a fictional fantasy game world. As such, I tend to care more about the antagonists than the 'protagonists'.

There's a lot riding on 5.3 for me.

And? You can play the game as you want, and I won't begrudge you for it. Just don't get mad if occasionally (and especially after a patch) you get grouped with people who do want to watch the cutscenes and you'll have to wait a little bit at the start of the dungeon. At least SE has learned since ARR that putting long cutscenes in the middle of a dungeon is a really, really bad idea.

Actually if you go to your room at the inn there is a book to watch your cutscene so why are you going to YouTube for that?

The book doesn't show every piece of story. I think it only shows actual cinematic cutscenes, not the in-world conversations where you can still control the camera. There may also be other restrictions I'm not aware of. Once or twice I've been in a cutscene when my DF queue has popped for a different class, and I've thought "oh I'll just cancel this and watch it from the book". Then after the duty the book was like "lol nope, this one is not available". So now I just make sure I'm on my queued class if I go into any cutscenes, since accepting the duty will abort the cutscene and allow me to restart it from the beginning.
