Given that XIV's world is going to be changed and there's a zone full of crystaline artifacts already (MorD for example) it doesn't have to be full of crystal monsters, but crystalization of certain guardians or representation of something (remember they're trying to fit with the classic FF Theme) wouldn't be that out of the realm of possibility.

As long as whatever is in there isn't recycled models of what we have already with a different hue, I'll be happy.

This is why I'd accept crystal mobs, for example the Crystal World in FFIX...that kind of recycling is ok by me.
