I’m not sure DOOM x FF14 would work, DOOM is this fast paced, uber violent FPS about killing demons with a minor story, with some futuristic elements involved too, while FF14 is a fantasy MMO about killing dragons/destroying evil empires/ancient bad guys who lean towards dark, depending on where you are uh the MSQ, all with a bit more involved story, sure the Garlemald and the void is similar to those mentioned demon/futuristic elements, but that’s just one piece of the puzzle in FF14, in DOOM, it’s all about finding the best way to kill demons.
Plus it’s important to ask, would the overall fanbase be interested in this kind of crossover? Would it make sense and not seem out of place?
Personally, I kinda doubt people would want this crossover, of course there’s bound to be some given the existence of this thread but that goes with any crossover.
And I also think it would seem out of place, it’s like if we had a Death Stranding or EDF crossover, what does a game about reconnecting a post apocalyptic America through delivering packages or killing giant bugs and aliens have to with slaying Dragons, Garleans, Sin Eaters, or Acians? Maybe the void but that’s a stretch imo.
With crossovers it is usually best not to question whether they are out of place or not. They basically are by default. Their primary function is the promotion of a product in the form of exclusive rewards that don't fit the game's lore at all. FF crossovers from other FF games though are kind of different. SE has them all weirdly connected to one another. And Nier apparently.
The only crossover I really want is with Final Fantasy XIV - preferably make all the future crossovers with that game only, I think it has a lot of potential to work with.
I'd honestly have preferred none of them, if they're slipped in as lazily as most have been. If you have to be familiar with the source material already for it to have significant appeal and makes it obvious that the content is quite separate from anything in XIV despite being in XIV... it doesn't belong, imo.
For instance, Monster Hunter's crossover fit relatively well apart from the J. J. Abrams-esque reliance on a screeching shovel-wielding cat to say ask the audience to get hyped while everyone else was just left... puzzled? You hunted a dragon and made dragon stuff from it, and it more or less felt like an extension of the hunts.
NieR's, by comparison, certainly could have fit well by creating a parallel to the Crystal Tower's time-bending and being found out in the Waste, indicating a time when humanity could live on in spirit only, through non-organic imitations. But instead it put a vast city inside a relatively small hill with no further context or information.
No.. we'd be:
