Greeding when someone needs? The need roll always wins. You can't roll on a weapon already in your inventory.
The thing is, with savage you only get one drop attempt per week. With EX, you can keep running it and get a weapon every run. There would be no reason for totems other than pity mounts if EXs dropped coffers
I agree in that RNG keeps the content alive.
It's only a week since patch.
Again: Nothing would change in this regard. 10 totems = get a weapon. The same like back in HW (I don't know if tokens were a thing back in ARR). But since HW we got 4 more classes, so 4 more weapons, so the chance for your weapon dropping while farming those 10 tokens went further down from expansion to expansion while everything else stayed the same. Next expansion we'll have 19 weapons eventually, lowering the odds once more.
Weapon Coffers would balance this. That's all. I mean, many of us are grinding for more than one weapon. So we hope, of course, to get the main one along the road so we can spend our totems on our secondary job (or vice versa).
The totems stay, of course. What I'm trying to do is to balance the handicap in RNG we got since HW (through adding more jobs = more weapons = lower chance for your specific weapon to drop) - not to make it worse.
Let's compare it to savage: With 8 runs you can get one weapon of your choice through books, most likley one weapon of your choice through weapon coffer (statistically you should get one, in a fair static it is actually guaranteed) and the small chance for your weapon to drop at random.
In Ex-Trials you get in 10 runs one weapon of your choice through books with the small chance for your weapon to drop at random.
So it's most likley 2 weapons in 8 runs (Savage) to 1 weapon in 10 (Ex).
Of course, Savage is harder as has a weekly limit but the savage weapon is also much better.
Why? The books stayed in savage too when they added the coffers. They even added them ON TOP of the random dropping weapon while removing nothing.
In Alexander you got a random weapon and a book (8 for a weapon). Since Omega we are getting a random weapon, a book (still 8 for a weapon) AND a weapon coffer.
Also, once again, the goal is to compensate for the dropping odds we get with every expanision on our chance of getting 2(!) weapons in 10 runs / for our main weapon along with the totems to spare for another weapon. 1 weapon in 10 runs was already guaranteed in HW through totems. So that has to stay, obviously.
