That's not difficulty, again. It's just time consumption.

I don't think that's difficulty, most of that is just tediousness. Sitting in town and not getting an invite the entire day != difficulty.
I assume what people are getting at here regarding CoP and whatnot, is the difficulty ceiling. The threshold in the eyes of many FFXI players, way higher, the learning curve was way higher, you couldn't just throw 8 people together and go level like you can in XIV, etc. All of this is pre-Abyssea mutilated FFXI of course.
I miss EM mobs that could kill solo adventurers if they weren't paying attention and prepared!
Engineer? I can build a pyramid of cans and I wouldn't say that's got much to do with engineering lol.
Come one now. I know people hate it when players use the FFXI standard to everything but you have to give credit where credit is due.
FFXI was hard as hell and filtered out all but the most dedicated or stubborn players during the install alone. You could barely solo a mob at your CURRENT level without an appropriate mix of subjobs and equipment. There was no changing jobs out in the field so your strategy had to include what was best for the fight and just plain getting there. I'll admit there were some glorified time sinks mixed along as well but every move you made in FFXI mattered and had dire consequences if you screwed the moogle.

FFXI was difficult on it's own, I saw full alliances wipe on gods back in 2009. XI was difficult and time consuming, in spite of what seem people seem to believe time consumption is a good thing, it keeps you from burning through the entire game's content in 5 minutes. People were getting all AF sets in 2 days, that's ridiculous.
