I would be content with mimicry simply working on NPC's. I don't want them to adjust the skill at all.

I think the way it works is okay. Maybe they could make using it on monsters give you a random role so you could try to fish for one mid-dungeon in case you accidentally turn it off.
Change Mimicry so that you learn a trait off of it, and also expand it while we're at it.
Basically, have it apply to more spells and split the DPS stance into three, for melee, ranged, caster. Something like ranged stance, for example, could improve the potency of those pointless single target spells that are weaker than the AoE ones...
Then, change it so once you use it it gain every role (so tank, healer, melee, ranged, caster), you learn an Enhanced Aetherial Mimicry trait. This upgrades the spell from one you use on others to gain their role, to a spell which simply cycles you through those roles.
I think that would be far more convenient and useful, while still sticking with the Blue Mage theme of going out and learning your spells. In fact, it would be nice to see a mechanism in general to learn more traits for Blue Mage, to enhance old spells that perhaps fall out of favour. Although if we're talking traits, I think XI Blue Mage has the best concept with attaching traits to spells with a means to unlock those traits by stacking spells with the same trait... Mimicry could even work in that regard too, if you set primarily healer focused spells along with Mimicry, you just get the healer stance in trait form. Likewise if you set primarily DPS or tank focused spells along with it, you'd get their stance as a trait.
I'd definitely want it changed. Rather it just toggled between the three stances and not be such a clumsy UX nightmare.
It would work well as a cycle, each time you use it it moves to the next role. DSP --> Tank --> Healer --> Off
But I want to lick strangers.
