My theoretical next tank- The Kingsglaive

Am I the only one who watched Kingsglaive and actually thought they were meant to be NIN with a side-helping of Black Magic (until the external source of their magic is cut off that is, then they just seem to use firearms)?

Okay I suppose their Protect spells would make them closer to NIN with RDM rather than BLM though, which is sort-of tanky.

Either way, I never got the feeling of a 'tank' with them, at all (they don't wear armour, they jump around a lot and prefer concelment and warping to avoid attacks rather than being right in the thick of things taking the enemy's brunt (which is why they're easily decimated when overwhelmed by the huge zerg-rush tactics Niflheim favoured). So really do they not only not fit the tank theme here in FFXIV at all, we already have ROG/NIN anyway which is basically the same Job they use, so if you want to emulate the Kingsglaive, just go ROG/NIN and glamour yourself accordingly.

I could have lived my entire life without realising i accidentally said FF 13 and not 8 in this thread from two years ago

The only Tank I could see them adding anymore would be Judge, unless they made it a third Maiming DPS, or something weird like one that uses Dual Shields (think Rhitahtyn)

A Judge would be very cool. Since we basically have Squall-the-job (which admit to being a huge fan of), I would be all for a very XII/Tactics flavored job.

I don't think it's the only tank option we have though. Something with a big hammer could add a nice changeup, maybe with more magic orientation like a geomancer or chronomancer. Imagine a tank that uses mitigation through aoe terrain stacks or time magic stacks.

I suppose either of those concepts could feasibly be wrapped up into a judge archetype too though.

When it comes to job I think they focus more on the easthetic and then build around.
The issue I have with kingsglaive is that it is too close from gunbreaker in the same vein that templar (often proposed ) is too close from PLD

I'm not saying it doesn't fit, but that I think they'll first go with unused style within the role.

Currently there are no proper elemental magic tank which makes me believe the next tank could be some sort of geomancer.

People were expecting the apothecary for healer (as I dandid) they were right
The initial plan was an apothecary, it just didn't work out.

But the sage feels the surgeon / high tech vibes the apothecary was meant to fill (less / no magic healer)

For instance this is why Im expecting the next caster to be something with little elemental magic, akin to the time mage. Because 2 already are heavy on element and one has lost a lot of his "bio / arcane" vibes with the introduction of Pheonix and apparently new upcoming pet skill (which are tied to elements)

Although I wouldn't be surprised well get a double DPS next X-Pac just to delay the "healer tank imbalance forum salt"
