I think the mobility thing is way overblown. Raid meta is almost always 2 melee/1 physical ranged/1 caster. Melee nearly always gets that 4th DPS slot despite how much being melee is supposedly a detriment to them.
Maybe mobility of physical ranged needs a small tax, but it sure as hell does not need the 1-2k DPS tax it has now.

As I said in another post, ranged have that mobility to do mechanics instead of melees/casters. I dont know why our dps should be lower when we are using it to let them have their uptime. First time I would hear "Hey, they are doing more stuff than us to allow us to dps normally, but let's tax them despite that"

Ranged tax is already paid for in armor, resistances and health. melee can typically survive a stray cleave but ranged fall over dead. At no point should range be taxed dps wise for it. Melee has more than enough mobility to ensure constant uptime and defensive mobility to avoid dangers. Monk has shoulder tackle on a rather short cooldown and constant speed boost from wind fist
Samurai has a gap closer and a jump back on short cooldown with minor resource cost (and a cost free resource builder when they can't go directly back to melee range)
Dragoon has multiple gap closers and a jump back.
Ninja has a (admittedly terrible) teleport that ignores ground hazards and a permanent always on speed bonus.
Bard has a 10 yalm jump that requires melee range, a target, and does no damage.
Mch just has sprint.
BLM can dash to a party member and to leylines, if they're up.
RDM can dash to a target and back away.
Dnc has three 10yalm dashes admittedly pretty good, but dancer tends to weave in and out of the melee anyway.
Of those three only mch/dnc/brd can dps with zero loss in performance while moving
