I started in Gridania at release and loved it there, but after some time I got virtually tired of walking so much for everything, may it be from town to Emerald Moss or inside searching for NPCs. Also the annoying copy/paste of the outdoors got me bored. I got to Uldah then for main story plot, and suddenly felt like I reached Jeuno. I couldn't leave my retainer in the bazaar because it was full, many players outside selling and even the good old shouts. It was a lot easier to reach guilds or leve NPCs, and overall, it was packed in comparison to Gridania. The outside was better too, camps were closer or at least it was my impression, behest were hard to get in, and the copy/paste was not as harsh as in the Black Shroud. Then I tried Limsa, I liked the port ambience, but it's labyrintic structure makes me struggle even today. And the landscape does no good to my graphic card :/ So I defo love Uldah for all mentioned before and it makes me feel "home".
I wonder what the fourth city state will be and what role it will have. Will it be the Eorzean Jeuno/Whitegate?
I prefer the feel of Limsa but I can't deny the benifits of being located in Ulduh, I wonder if this is a problem for SE or if this was an expected eventuallity?
Yes, but i plan to move back to Gridania as soon as we get delivery boxes. Atm. it's just most practical to have both my characters in the same town. Kind of hoping for linked market wards aswell tbh.
I supose i might have migrated to Uldah... if it was more appealing to the eye. I find it utterly discusting, along with the outside of Thanalan.
Where as Limsa is a nice port town with lots of boats and water views. Gridania is a green green... green forest atmosphere, which would be my fav, cept its practically deserted. Uldah is just tall walls and beige and grey colored tones, maybe the dreary colors turn me off. Or its the fact that all my enemys congregate there, haha.
Im sure in time when the world opens up, so will the prime town location. If it is the middle where ppl tend to be most, then my theory of Gridania being the middle might win after they open Ishgard and the surounding areas. For those of you who wish to know my theory its summed up with, Grid being the central airship hub, which can take you to Thanalan, La Noscea. And once the other 2 citys open up (Ala Mhigo and Sharlavan), The black shroud would be the area youd have to cross to get to them. But SE can can change my idea with simply putting the airship hub in Ishgard and that will most likely be the new popular town. (kinda like how XI worked out). I dont like to hold tight to theorys cause its only speculating the possable future. I just wait to see what will happen.
Linked wards would solve popularity problems, but i find that making things too easy.
Delivery boxes would be a better solution to that issue. You can easily shout on ur LS to check something in another town and trade via delivery.
I started in grid, moved to ul'dah, i was going to STAY in grid but the main storyline booted me out and i was already selling in uldah so :/
I do solo around it sometimes though.
It is normal to have a main place to gather. FFXI had Jeuno, WoW has Ironforge/Stormwind, FFXIV has Uldah, it is just the way it is.
Personally I am hanging around in Limsa Lominsa because of the armorer guild there, but Uldah is the main place to be to buy/sell stuff. I think when the other city opens that will be the main place to gather.
I noticed that very recently, and thank you for bringing it up, looking at the CE cloth map. If you wander about in Gridania you also come across a gate to the North, near the Wailing Barracks (Lancers Guild) that obviously goes somewhere also, but is currently unopenable. No doubt it will lead to new regions once they open up.
Personally, I've stuck to Gridania as best I can - you don't solve anything for anyone if you all head to the same city, plus I like being in the Black Shroud much more than Thanalan. I was there in the final days before the server went down, but that was mainly due to carrying out a mission that sent me out there. No doubt I'll head back to Gridania once the servers go up again.
I hope that we don't end up (once systems are improved and such) with Ul'Dah still being the main hub (or any of the other cities). Nothing bugs me more than entire regions/cities being deserted just because "Everyone else is there". World of Warcraft is terrible for this as well, with everyone congregating in Orgrimmar on the Horde side. I hate Orgrimmar damn it, even with its make over. Nothing kills the entire feeling than everywhere but one place being a ghost town, I'll tell you that.
Ul'dah has always been the main go to city. At least on Selbina.
