Cause of ascian calamity and rejoining elemental

The Sound is what bugs me the most honestly, I lean toward it being the fault of the ancients (that's the usual trope, they tread too close to the sun), not to mention we only hear of it from Emet-Selch's side who is notoriously pro-ancient. The fact that some ancients saw fit to split their existence into shards also makes me lean towards this route.
The possibility that a third existence outside of Zodiark and Hydaelyn also exists and is pretty exciting, but nothing of any sort has been mentioned like that so far, I think?

thing is it sort of gave me ff7 vibe in ff7 there were the anciants(aeriths race) who were the closest to the planet which gave them the ability to use magic. then later on jenova comes and the planet saw jenova as a threat which drove the anciants mad in a bid to kill jenova. anciants pretty much all died but a few (aeriths family) who were to young at the time to really fight. reminds me a lot of amuarotine and the sound the sound could be the planet senseing a threat to itself and the terminus could have been a defense mechanism to fight that threat. that could be an alien race landing on the planet (middy and the eggs maybe?) or it could be that the amuarotines were somehow harming the planet without realising.

My personal theory on this is that the ascians brought it on themselves. These are a people who are literally born with the ability to bend and warp reality into whatever they want. Don't have any meat to eat? Will it into creation. Need clothes? Will it into creation!

They do this to the point they have actual government regulation and an entire culture revolved around keeping people from creating insane designs willy-nilly. It was done for safety reasons, but it occurred to me that their habit of simply willing things into being was probably the indirect cause of their calamity. They weren't allowing nature to evolve things naturally, or ensuring their creations fit naturally into the ecosystem. And yet they existed, and presumably, muscled their way in. The same is likely true for mining, agriculture, and every other aspect of life.

And every time they tugged on the world's balance they pulled it a tiny bit more out of balance until finally the entire system buckled out from under them. Because even if the will of the star wasn't made manifest, there was still a delicate natural balance and they insisted on mucking with due purely to the overabundance of aether on their world and their own curiosity.

They were so certain they were superior to everything else in the world that they didn't even TRY to heed any warnings from the elementals, which I suspect was the world's original medium for communication before Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Something their fractured descendants have managed to grasp, at least a little, after having it crammed in their faces that BAD THINGS (tm) will happen if you mess with things irresponsibly.

That's my take anyway.

I mean, if it's really important that they cover all the elements and both polarities, then we know what the next will be: Light, again. Because they've yet to succeed in causing a Light Rejoining. They did Darkness twice, it's true - but it failed the first time. Light failed this time (albeit in a significantly less catastrophic manner), so try, try again!

I've been assuming, though I could be wrong, that they only needed eight Calamities. That would push the entirety of the balance tilted towards the source, and the rest may just naturally fall on their own without needing to deal with all the silliness they've had to do for a while. It's a little hard to say, though, because no one's said anything about their plans beyond the Eighth Calamity.

I wonder to what exactly She is referring.. Is it the aftermath of Zodiark's summoning or could it be something happening earlier?.. Could Darkness somehow got sentient and put into motion the events leading to Terminus Day? Or did Zodiark was a imperfect creation and started acting like a primal..?

Oh yeah I forgot about that. That might reference post Zodiark created balance, but still interesting to note.

A curious thing to make note of is that, iirc, one of the Ascians, either Elidibus or Emet-Selch, I don't remember which, make mention that only one more rejoining is needed for Zodiark to break free from his prison. Yeah, the Ascians want *all* the shards rejoined to the source, but Zodiark would likely be strong enough to accomplish that for them. If the calamity elemental alignment ever actually mattered at all, then what if it only mattered for freeing Zodiark?

I get the feeling this was more an assumption we made based on info given to us. When they were marketing ShB, they said we would be preventing the 8th and final umbral calamity. The Ascians themselves make reference to a "final key", and we believed that to be a key to a prison... But in the end there was no mention of Zodiark suddenly appearing when the 8th calamity was over.
