Soo...is it just me or is Samurai very boring?

I don't play it much, but I found it to be a very smooth playstyle. So smooth in fact that I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't your problem with it, even if you don't realize it.

It has a lot of actions, a charge, a backstep, a ranged skill, some very powerful single target abilities and easy to use aoe, but for all that once you get it all figured out it's very easy to play well.

It's just not a challenging class to master, which can be disorienting when compared to most other melee dps classes.

When I leveled SAM in ShB I was so amazed by the flow that I want to make it my main in EW. lol

The animations could be a bit more flashy, but I remember hearing the dev team state that making SAM not flashy was a very deliberate design decision. It's like the opposite of BLM in many regards minus DMG.

It's smooth until you get tsubame-gaeshi. Then you realize your skill speed can completely mess up your entire rotation, and singular accidents, such as casting an extra GCD, sets you back 20s.

It's in the same category as hagakure in Stormblood. On paper it's fine, but it runs into semi-serious gameplay issues in practice that it has no right having problems with. They're slightly lessening the problem, but it didn't seem like they were properly fixing it.

Also, if you think SAM isn't challenging to master, you really don't understand SAM's rotation. Right now it's the second hardest class to master at level 80, and it doesn't seem like that's changing at all.

Minmax junkies aside, SAM is not difficult to play well in the hardest content without having to work yourself into a frenzy like with DRG or MNK.

The SAM rotation is very linear and easy to understand. It does not take a great deal of practice to be able to reliably keep up the two buffs and one dot while dodging mechanics and performing the heaviest attack abilities. It is to that extent that I refer to mastering, not the numbers crunching "repeating, of course" study of 0-1 second skill execution perfection that only a few define as "mastering." Keep your elitism to yourselves.

You said "not that challenging to master" that means skill ceiling. That's inherently going to be about so called elites. Samurai is easy to pick up but it has tons of nuance about uptime, looping, kenki management, third eye usage, down time, and making a time line if you want to get to the nitty gritty stuff. Saying Sam is about keeping up a dot and two buffs is as genuinely bad as saying blm is easy because all BLM does is cast fire 4.

Not here to argue with you or anyone about what defines mastering a class. I said what I said and that isn't even the point of this forum.

You can try to convince op that the class might be more fun if he focuses on such absolute perfection, but that sounds like a good way to get burned out even faster to me. Too easy unless you're a fanatic then too hard?

I was just talking to you not the op, the op is from the very beginning of the expac when shoha was a completely different ability and hagakure was taken out of the game lol. I don't mind people thinking Sam is boring because taste is subjective, all I was doing was saying is Sam isn't an easy job to master. Idk what you consider for a job to be mastered but if it is subjective, then a ice mage has mastered their job.

Then why even say anything at all. What a waste of typing. SAM is an easy job to master the basics and a harder job the master at minmaxing. We're both right, but you gotta get all arrogant about it?
