Summoner Tanking Pet

Tanking pet was not axed, it's just no longer a Tank in the traditional sense. It casts a barrier spell to protect it's master, and for Titan specifically it drops a molten circle at the caster's feet to damage enemies.

Titan-Egi can give the SMN a shield for 20% of their max HP.

With the changes to how pets work, SMN is getting rather large changes.

It's not a tank at all, in any sense. It can't be targeted or generate hate for itself. The tooltip calls it "support" because it casts a defensive barrier. The pet was not removed, but its tanking function and capability were.

It's not just group content. Titan's enmity doesn't scale at all, so by the time you reach the mid-50s at the latest, he can't hold mobs off of you. It only gets worse as you level further, get more burst damage, and then summoning Demi-Bahamut causes his aggro to reset completely.

Your points are valid, but the fact remains, at low levels, Titan did serve as a passable tank keeping the player safe from harm.

I'm optimistic that the barrier functionality may serve well enough as a replacement, tho.

Idk, I've seen that chicken nugget tank better than some of the tanks I was grouped with at the time. He was more helpful than some would think.

The problem with the Chicken Nugget is honestly that Bahamut stole all the dipping sauce.

Hopefully physick got buffed and isn't worthless to make up for losing him

You can see for yourself in the patch notes. It just got a slight cast time reduction.

Not exactly a "niche" considering how much of this game is designed around soloing and that hopefully everyone is doing their job-quests.
