It would be absolutely... weird to take Flying out of the rest of the game. Plus, it was shown in multiple screenshots that mounts were flying.
So I think we're OK on that side, don't worry.

The truth is that, if you fantasia to a Bunny-girl, you will not be able to fly anymore. because bunnies are scared of heights.
But the "dig" ability will allow you to teleport though.

They already showed you the travel tab for the zones, you need some sort of pink gem, most likely from doing FATEs, rather than collecting the currents.

I know i sound crazy but id actually like no flying. At least in the first few patches. Zones wouldnt get old so fast.

That being said, it'll probably still be unlocked through Aetherial Currents found with the compass and rewards from quests so you get it only once you're done with the zone. -

The only problem I have with flying mounts is if they don't have wings they shouldn't be able to fly, flying goobues look wrong lol. When they first introduced flying I did think it was stupid GC choco couldn't fly not to mention you got a black chocobo that could fly but you had to find the currents to be able to fly. Having just finished Heavensward, it was irritating that gathering was being hampered by having to quest currents and progress MSQ to be able to get to some currents.
