I won't lie, that certainly falls under the thin-skin thing. To judge the whole game based an encounter with a single individual using emotes. I'm sure even GW2 has folks like that. Every MMO does. Did you or your husband message the emoter in question to ask them to stop, or at least let them know that it was offensive to you?Quote:
it didn't give me the best impression of the game,
To each their own I guess.
As for impression of the game try to join a guild (Free company) which would run things with you, it really changes the memories/feeling we have with the game. DON'T be afraid to join small FCs, small FCs will run more things with you than big FCs will, trust me on this.
Following that logic though then all forms of chat are fair game because SE incorporated a chat system.
In the end it's how these systems are being utilized that will determine whether something could be defined as harassment. And if the OP's story is to be believed, then he was indeed possibly being harassed.
FCs certainly help. I remember when I first started. I got to like lvl 40 without ever seeing anyone chat in the game. I thought it was dead and quit, lol. Only later did I realize that all the social experiences in this game are compartmentalized in FCs, LSs, and Novice Network. Bless the Novice Network and it's hours of free entertainment!
Whats with the sudden surge of people being thin skinned over emotes?
Regardless if they actually made comments about your rotation, maybe it just might be something you should look in to. Often times there are people that think because it works for them it's the right way when it's not.
Im not defending their comments if he actually said something rude to you, but often there's a reason behind comments about peoples gameplay.
Just like anything else, if you have to ask, the answer is yes.
I say this often, but I'm really not wrong about it: turning chat off increases your enjoyment exponentially on English language severs.
Ive had tanks yell at me for dpsing before when they were never near the chance of dying, they must be right right?
You were fine, they were honestly just being dicks.
You did the right thing, and if they even try to report you they'll look at the logs and understand.
