Minfilia as a Rouge

speaking of Arcanist, they said that trusts can be unlocked. Now I'm wondering if Tataru can be unlocked as a joke trust, she has access to a arcanist/summoner skill set to make up for a lack of a pet, and her damage output is the bare minimum for a dungeon

Ya Minfilia was partly raised by Thancred since events of 1.0 Ul'dah prologue.

It is no surprise she took up some Rogue combat knowledge from him since Thancred's origins is that of being a Rogue before he was found.

Also, it fits her place in the story being the less experienced combat person of the group as the others have gone through serious battles and gained the experience and knowledge for them to be their own version of the Jobs.

Still, it may be interesting if Minfilia actually Job advance later into her own Job since Trust NPCs play under different rules with their Jobs as some of them will even do special mechanics during boss fights to skip Boss Mechanics using their own Job ability such as Thancred just push himself with his Gunblade Blast himself half way through a boss mechanic with his gunblade to instantly be right where the Boss is and skip the mechanic. Maybe she advance into Assassin.

that is something I am interested in because it gives some unique experience to replay 5.0 Story Dungeons to see how thing splay out and what Companion Banter they may have.

Even if it's not an AST skill, it's possible he worked it out for himself! The lorebook says that his Amber Carbuncle is a variant he created on the usual Topaz that is too complex for anyone else to cast. So you can probably explain him having all sorts of non-standard skills by the same logic.

Well It does make sense for him to have always been a rogue as he is an info gatherer and sometimes you need to go to some seedy places to collect that information. Then there is at least a line I want to say where he jokingly calls himself a bard while being seen chatting with some women. Which would also make sense as bards also tend to hear things others don't because who's going to care if the guy playing some music over hears something.

In regards to Thancred, he was always a rogue, but the class didn’t exist in 1.0. Rather than just have him do nothing, they utilized the fact that gladiator at the time had access to daggers (more than actual swords tbh if you don’t count shortswords as long daggers) for his weapon and stance. This is also why when you saw him fight in cutscenes he’d have one dagger and it’d Multiple into like 5 before he threw them. The bard part of his persona comes from him writing songs and ballads I believe, not literally being the job.

In regards to the classes however, I think it’s fair to say that none of the scions actually play by the rules in the sense that they are actually bound to one class and that’s all they can do. Like the players, they are capable of multiple roles but have clear talents in certain areas. Thancred and Y’shtola have arguably been breaking the rules of class limitations since 1.0. that said, it was somewhat emphasized in 4.0 with some classes that jobs are not typically inherently superior to classes, we just perceive it that way because that is how it works for us as players (for example monks are not necessarily BETTER than monks, they just have different techniques).

Do I think Minfillia is a trained rogue? Not really. Do I think she’s learning to defend herself and might display unique abilities like every other scion? Absolutely.

In general, I think that perceiving the scions being a certain class or job as that LITERALLY being their profession rather than a representation of the weapon they are using is something of a mistake in itself.

Thancred is multi talented.
Y’shtola is arguably an archmage at this point.
The twins are magically inclined but of different dispositions.
Urianger has always had an interest in fate and prophecies and the like
Etc.

Rather than what they appear as LITERALLY being the sum of their abilities and skills, I think it’s safer to assume that it is just the vehicle for the actions they will perform.

I fully expect Minfillia to either be useless in combat (as is characteristic of her and would make sense in her current state) or to pull off some weird godlike abilities (also because of her current state).

Random Tidbit, Apparently Minfillia has access to a combat active Hide and a weaker but longer lasting trick attack

Makes a whole lot of sense, Thancred teaching Mini-minfilia how to fend for herself. Also being blatantly portrayed as a Rogue is sort of indicative that she's not very experienced yet, but still can do stuff. (Obviously mechanically ingame she wouldn't be purposedly underpowered, or else nobody would take her to the runs).

Also I love the idea that she's not portrayed as clad in black leathers obvious rogue archetype.
