Imagine if the First World actually had mirror versions of our characters, and the dev team were cruel and sadistic. Re-introduce Haurchefant, only to kill him again.

Gamer Escape: In the launch trailer, The Warrior of Light is talking to an NPC when he arrives on The First who looks like the NPC that we encounter when we first started A Realm Reborn (Brendt, Brennan, and Bremondt). Is this an Easter egg? Or is this something more?
Naoki Yoshida: This NPC doesn’t tie in closely to the narrative per se, but it is something that is in there to maintain a sense of consistency in your adventures. As you know, the world was shattered into 14 different shards, including The Source, about 10,000 years ago. When the world split into the different shards, because it was based off the same ether, each is a similar realm. So there may be a possibility that certain people, while not exactly replicated, will look similar on the different realms. We wanted to depict that in a easily recognizable form. So, as we’re starting this new adventure in Shadowbringers, we had this NPC show up. This was something that we wanted to incorporate as a reminder that while, yes, we are starting this new important quest, also, “hey look”, there they are again. So it was deliberate in that way.
So, while they may look similar, they are not exactly the same person who follows the same path. Their fate may be different in the different realms. We wanted to depict that aspect of it as well. You will probably encounter other similar situations with other characters that you come in contact with throughout the story.
Right, that character is just used as a narrative device to tie us beginning in the First with the start of our adventures in Eorzea. Personally I feel like if we get any more characters that carry over it’s going to cheapen the story.
What tickled my nose was what looks like Minfilia from our world meeting a younger First's version of herself.

Please not Moenbryda. She was the first character that I actively hated, as she was obviously a huge Mary Sue character thrown in as an attempt to tug on your heart strings when they were still afraid of anything bad or permanent happening to the "main" characters.
It they did something to flesh her out, maybe, but her current incarnation can stay where she is.
Loiusoix might still around in the first, if young Minfilia is there. Could be interesting for the twins
A random NPC that has a moveset of every single ability that was removed from our classes going from 4.# to 5.0.
Why? I like suffering.
A Hrothgar.
I don't want to see alternate versions of characters at all. It shouldn't be happening logically (with the worlds split and independent for so long), and I don't want to see it thematically. I don't feel like there's any good way to "bring back" an alternate version of a dead character without cheapening the emotional impact of the original.
The suggestion that it's happening has seriously taken my excitement down several notches.
Honestly I'd rather not see dead characters back. It takes away from the importance of their sacrifices and everything else that drove the remaining ones to where they are now. One of the things I don't like about alternate realities, multiverses and time traveling on media is that it creates a mindset of "It's okay if this character dies here, his alternate-reality-clone is safe and sound so the impact of his death is neglectable".
I'd rather have a situation of "because Haurchefant never existed in this reality this other NPC would be his equivalent while still not being him" than a "what if" version of himself making a cameo just because.
I don't even remember this character, at all. I think my friend was telling me a few weeks ago when she died (I think it was her) that everyone in the story was sad, and he had no clue who she even was really, or why everyone was so sad. I was all like "Yeah, I don't remember them at all".
