Hmm, I was not aware of this issue, but yeah I have noticed one combo was useless against boss, so I swapped two weaponskills and now we have 3 combos useful (one specialized in enmity).

In fact, the active illusions are created on your position. No need to position them.
However, you have to do it for Self Reflection which is a passive illusion. This ability is not mandatory but you have several ability which interact with illusions, so you may miss some opportunities if you don't do it.

I remember have read your job and like it because of the theme and ideas but I have forgotten everything (been nearly 1 year, now).
It's not impossible I may have unconsciously taken inspiration from your work.
