But genders matter in Viera lore, a lot actually.

Whew, lad...that's a topic I didn't think someone was bold enough to submit. I see where you're going with this, but I'm going to say that this just ain't gonna happen. It would take up way more time than just having what they're able to work with now. As one user said, this is a can of worms that's best left unopened.
If they don't change the body types it won't take many resources at all. of course it would be awesome if they had a more gender-neutral/fluid body type. But it should still be ok to keep the existing body types since they are both fantasy races.
And i don't think people getting triggered should prevent a game from adding a feature that gives people more options.
This isn't taking anything away from anyone. Just giving people more choice. Choice = good.
from ff wiki: "Final Fantasy XIV gives exposition to the elusive male viera, who are virtually identical at birth to females; only upon maturing they are able to be identified gender wise."
So there is lore saying they are almost identical.
Can make up lore saying that some males choose to dress/live as "females" to remain with them. And others choose to be more masculine and leave.
I think you've completely misunderstood the problem.
Can we not?
I distinctly remember several months ago someone creating the pronoun thread and how well do you think that went down? Pretty sure it doesn't exist anymore. The solution would've been to simply release either one race both genders or better yet, both races and both genders (considering the amount of work involved uh).
As someone who is essentially anti SJW I kind of think this would be a neat idea. The problem is that this would actually take more resources then just adding the two genders.
Hmm....
I dunno...
