Thundaga vs Ifrit broken?

Even with out crts Thundaga on every other mob in the game it does more dmg Here is an example of what i got.

On Ifrit. Thunder 290 dmg > Thundara 560 > CRT hit Thundaga 460 dmg. If it was indeed ifrit's resist Why is'nt the other 2 spells under performing. Thundaga even w/o crt on all other mobs does wayyy more dmg than a Thundara that does not stun.

Edit: and yes i have like 85 crt hit bonus from materia and 480 magic acc w/o food and 290 int and 260 mnd.

I get more or less the same numbers with mine aswell.

Kind of silly that my thundara crit does more dmg than my thundaga crit, given the high recaster and MP cost on thundaga.

The problem with Thundaga is that the base damage is lower than Thundara. Magic Resist might be focus more on base damage, and since Thundara has more penetrating power than Thundaga due to higher base it results in much better damage, that's my theory. For instance if you fight Whiskerwall PLD Moogle as an Archer, you will notice that each of Barrage hit does almost three times the damage of a normal shot, yielding total 15 times damage of a normal shot. On any other Moogle that has much less def you find a Barrage hit is not much higher than a normal shot.

I think it is logically impossible to have an attack both critical and partial resisted.
It just doesn't make any sense.

I think the focus should be on the damage formulas of both spell.
Like if Thunderga have a dINT sneaked into it.
Since Ifrit deals a lot of magical damage.
It would make sense if Ifrit has a higher INT. possible way higher than any player can reach.

Because we don't know the damage formula, it's just my hunch that the base damage before multiplication with INT and Magic ATK and whatnot of Thundaga is actually lower than Thundara (for example, Thundaga would be (100-resist)*5 while Thundara would be (200-resist)*1.5, something like that). Gloom Arrow also usually does higher than Barrage per hit, but does less than Barrage per hit on PLD Moogle. Either that or the damage bonus from Thundara combo is a fixed number and it just happen to bypass Ifrit Magic resist.

U cast thundara so fast in ifrit that u get him off guard, now with thundaga he is prepare for the hit to resist it more

Sounds to me like a partial resist, that will make thundaga do less than thundara, I would try experimenting with some thunder macc+ or macc+ see if it helps.

It would be logical that thundaga has a higher resist rate than thundara, but as people have said, we dont know the damage formulae it could always be something with ifrit's stats thats messing it up.

There isnt alot we can say without the damage formulae execpt experiment with different builds for ifrit, could be something unique to him thats causing it. It would be logical however, that he has high int because all his attacks are magical, unlike all other none mage mobs, this would cause alot of resists, and if thundaga has a higher resist rate it could be the problem.

It's not a partial resist. You can try this on a R60 Sundrake or any high level mob. The lower damage you do in general on all the Thunder line, the MORE thundara combo outperforms the other 2 spells. In extreme situations such as Ifrit, it begins to outperform it's higher tier Thundaga (w/o the critical hit bonus proc).
