Early First Impressions on Gunbreaker

Not seeing the issue. Renzokuken being the Gunbreaker flavor of a Tank Personal Damage Breaker is plenty fine by me.

The Personal LB Meter would be something to balance around, since I’d guess each job would literally have a way to add damage or simply mitigate.

Considering the tediousness of it all though, I understand it would cause imbalance. I just was referring to those actual Limit Breaks Squall uses to actually be a part of the kit potentially.

I'm personally thinking that the Gunblades that Gunbreakers are using, and the name of the job itself, is designed as a concept to fight against Gunblades from the Garlean Empire, from a lore perspective. The fact that it will be starting in Gridiania is probably due to it's proximity to Baelsar's Wall and Ala Mhigo.

My best guess is that Renzokuken's going to end up being a skill that gives Gunbreaker unrestricted access to skills that require Magicked Ammunition for something like 10-15s.

We're likely going to Dalmacia, not Garlemald. Just based on the races, areas we've seen, and hints from the Rabanastre content.

As for how it fits in Gridania... my wife and I said the same thing. "Huh? Gridania? Why start there?" But then I thought about it a bit; remember that Ala Mihgo borders Gridania and used to be held by imperials. So it's not too unlikely that a Imperial refugee would come to Gridania, or if it's Thancred that teaches us, maybe he takes Minfillia there.

I think it unlikely Thancred will be our job mentor for GUN. They usually like to keep MSQ characters separate from the job quests, aside from occasional mentions or cameos (RDM mentor being mentioned by Alisaie, the THM mentors appearing at the end of Stormblood, etc.); Estinien is really the only exception, and he's entirely absent from the 50-60 DRG quests as a result. An Imperial refugee would make a lot of sense, though.

I think we will have 1 or 2 of Squall's limit breaks as either half or full job gauge abilities.

The actual LB3 would be something like a magitech group shield

Yeah. My best bet is that the 'breaker' part comes from it being designed to counter Garlean guns/artillery. The same way that DRK is sort of an anti magic tank in a way, it would be an 'anti ranged dps' tank, except I don't expect this would reflect gameplay at all. A style to defend against and counter ranged weapons.

Our job mentor for Gunbreaker will almost certainly be called Leon...

Still sad that the new tank class is another sword wielding one. Really wanted something different but it seems that many people wanted it and are happy about it so that is great, the more tank the better :)
I will probably try it but I an not that appealed.

I started off as a PLD in 2.0. I like tanking and it was between that and a giant axe... which I had zero interest in. Not to mention I hate HP tanks. I much prefer mitigation.

However, PLD was boring af. I was MORE than happy to switch to DRK when HW came out. It is a much "busier" job, and even though the storyline kinda sucked, I like the concept of DRK over PLD (even though I liked Cecil better as a PLD than a DRK).

So while I switched to DRK out of desperation for a non-boring tank, I am REALLY looking forward to GUN. FF8 was one of my favorites (despite it's flaws) and the concept is much more interesting to me than either PLD or DRK.
