[SPOILER (Kinda)] - About the Dungeon in 4.5

Pipin is in an awkward place, class-wise, because lore-wise he's not a DRK - he's a gladiator with a sword that's too big to carry on his waist.

Has anyone had a close look at him in battle to see what stance he is using? Is he fighting as a DRK, or have they programmed that sword as a generic weapon that he wields in gladiator stance? (Which is basically "default stance" - you'll also do it if you go into battle stance with a DoH/DoL class, or try to do the /bstance and /vpose emotes with them.)

There are definitely instances throughout the game of characters with non-standard weapons - eg. in the MCH quests Rostnsthal has an axe that he carries on his waist like a sword, and Stephanivien only has a wrench. Both go into gladiator stance in battle, but I'm not sure if they use any skills or just do auto-attacks.

He uses Dark knight animations, since he is using a Sword that is too large for him (one of the only examples of a weapon not size morphing to fit the wielder). Whats odd is that he uses Drks Enmity combo which has some kinda Magic palm blast as if he were an actual Drk rather than a Gladiator with a 2-hander

It wouldn't be the first time we see some NPC changing their "job" tho, remember that the Handsome Stranger (Thancred) started as a GLD and now is a NIN and he goes with a gunblade in the 5.0 trailer. And Alisaie also changed her weapon to the RDM rapier.

Also why Kan-E-Senna was using Collective Unconscious, an AST skill? That blew my mind.

I didn't know Lyse or Hien can do it too. I ran it two times so far and it was only Yugiri.
Too bad there's no Estinien like in Ala Mhigo dungeon, otherwise we'd get all 4 melees option XD

The other thing I like about this dungeon is that playing as a healer felt like my character is actually a healer in war, because I got to heal other people besides my party.

Ah, so the NPC is programmed as a dark knight then.

It makes sense that the weapon doesn't scale for him, because it's not just "a sword" (with the presumption that "really" he would have picked a Lalafell-sized rather than Hyur-sized sword) but a specific sword that was intended to be used by a Hyur but has been gifted to him for sentimental value. It would be strange if it magically shrank.

Thancred and Alisaie have canonically had training with their second jobs though. (Thancred has history with the Rogues' Guild, and the RDM tutor mentions that Alisaie was learning from him.)

Pipin was just gifted a sword that's too big for him. He would have to learn to wield it two-handed, like the physical element of a dark knight's sword skills, but that doesn't mean he's had any training in the dark magic side of it.

But then again, I just remembered that according to the lorebook, the sword itself is cursed!

So... that could account for Pipin spontaneously acquiring dark magic powers, and also an additional reason why it's so significant to be gifted it in the first place. Definitely not something you want to be picking up if you're not ready for it...



Not sure if there's an explanation for Kan-E using Collective Unconscious, if that's what it is, though I thought Y'shtola has used a similar shield before? Or maybe the different healing disciplines do overlap to some extent. I'm sure she knows more white magic than we do.

It's like everything has an explanation, thanks for that lore quote! But what about the bubble haha why couldn't she use the WHM aoe instead... Because the AST one looks cooler? Haha the other time I've seen that shield was when Fordola used it in 4.1 against Lakshmi, but it still makes me curious.

Talking about Fordola, we haven't seen her in a while, I hope she makes an appearance in the next part of 4.5.

They aren't sneak peaks at 5.0 limit breaks maybe? (going off the user who said they wanted Hien LB for SAM)

White mages AoE heals, it doesn't protect. Wouldn't help prevent getting wiped out.

As for why she used that barrier...to be honest, that looks like a generic force-field to me even for Astrologian. So I wouldn't bother too much with it. There are several times when people that have no actual barriers form them to prevent a wipe of some sort. Sometimes with an explanation (Estinien and Nidhoggs eye), other times without it (Fordola and actually players character protecting people from Lakshmi).

Kan E is my commander so to speak but she needed to finally show some use i suppose.
I rather enjoyed seeing familiar characters fighting and it is a great dungeon.
When Yugiri used a LB i was like hey.. thanks for using our lb (in a joking matter of course)

And Lyse, she finally did something useful in SB as well
