I was wishing this was a thing back in FFXI, and yeah, still would be nice here too.

Limitations™ and Limited Resources™
Why are you all stopping at requesting only a preview?
Lets ask for a separate setting for the combat voice! Given your voice of choose, have two or more different sounds to pick for the combat will be good.
I turned myself into a Hyur midlander one time, I lasted a day before the weird grunting, and walk animations made me fantasia again. Would definitely love to preview combat voices, kind of luck of the draw, especially if you fantasia a lot.
Holy hell I would also appreciate this. I made that mistake briefly when I first made my character and found out pretty quick that the voice was really really grating on the ears in combat. Had to remake cause I didnt have a phantasia at the time, and now every time I want to phantasia, I make the character I want first as an alt, attack some mobs, then phantasia. It works but its a pain in the butt.
There used to be a series of videos on youtube by a JP player that previewed every base voice emote and battle grunt with each race and gender. It was some of the most useful stuff when making a new character but they deleted their account or the videos got flagged for copyright or something a few years back :( I wish I had backed them up or something.
I would totally love more in depth previews!
I bet I know what voice you picked (I call it the mickey mouse voice). Every time I hear it in combat, I die inside.
I only use the Japanese voices (1-3) for all my characters; so far so good.
Yes please. Creating a new character for each voice was so tiresome. I've smacked countless squirrels and hurled myself off many ledges just for that small chance at hearing the injury grunts.
So very much this! I'm the type that spends hours perfecting my character before creation, so when I found out my /laugh sounded like a hyena, instead of the sensible voice that I chose, I was pretty pissed off. As it stands, the only way to reliably check your character's voice is to actually fully create and log-in with the character in order to test the emotes/battle noises, of you might get an unexpected surprise down the line.
They should just add the current basic emotes, run animations, and auto-attack to the character creator so you can really preview your character...
